Ooh Big S hit on a roll today. He can’t offer a cogent argument against the 9.3 mm so he bombards us with his allegedly learned opinion. I’ll bet he’s a card carrying Democrat to boot.

Sweetheart,

There's no need to obliviously quantify your WELL founded Insecurities, though it is FUNNIER than fhuqk! The only things you "shoot",are your mouth and Imagination, while extolling your Political Penchants. NO "surprises" there. Hint.

Very GOOD call,to again hit FULL Reverse,on ALL things The Rifle. That is the ONLY "move",you "have". HINT.

Perhaps cite what you "do" for a "living",which so RELIABLY arranges your Bumbling Brokedicktitude and utter CLUELESSNESS? Then cite how many times a day you think about me and the durations of same. If only for starters. Hint.

Just sayin'.................

Stick, you're going to have a hard time convincing me that a Mauser 98 can't be a serious rifle. I think I'll be long dead before it rusts enough to impact functionality.

The cocking piece peep intrigues me. I have experience with receiver mounted peep sights and love them for their speed. The peep sights mentioned for the rear bridge would work well, too. The cocking piece location just gets it that much closer to your eye. One thing about irons of any kind is going to be stock fit. For me, getting the comb low enough for quick, effortless acquisition means a modified, crooked stock that multiplies recoil. But, there's nothing quicker. Someone already mentioned Phil Shoemaker and Old Ugly. If you don't have access to Rifle Loony News, you should. Go to riflesandrecipes.com and when you subscribe, you get access to past issues. The Fall 2011 issue has an article by Mr. Shoemaker about his Alaska Mauser build. You want to read that. I'm excited for you. Nothing like that purpose built rifle that is just what you want and fits you and your needs perfectly.

I had this one done up, for a all purpose rifle. 8mm-06, Mauser 98. Shoots 200gr Accubonds at 2800 fps. It's been a great rifle...so far. It's been exposed to some harsh elements and holding up well. I will be replacing the scope with a trijicon accupoint at some point.

I also plan another build, I have a stainless steel lothar 8x64s 26" barrel on hand that I'm trying to figure out.

Have you considered using a Pre-64 Model 70? Shooter grades can be bought pretty reasonable. Run it as a '06 with heavies, rebore it or rebarrel to your 9.3.
It already has the nice safety. decent bottom metal, you can maybe keep it light and buy a featherweight. Finish metal with something pretty bombproof also.

I never seriously considered a model 70. Nothing against them, I'm just a Mauser guy. Plus, a new barrel or even a rebore adds to the build cost.

I already got the base rifle. Decided on a trigger and safety.

Little twig. Do you miss that 8X56 yet? 9.3x62 is a great caliber. I have more bullets than I can shoot in my lifetims. PPU286 gr round nose. It smacks things hard and expands well. There are many other bullets but one of my favorites is Hawk. If you want them buy four boxes and they might even make a pointed soft for you. RZ.

Sweetheart,

Thankfully,I've never lost a bet that big. My concern if suffering same, would be how to get the stench off my hands. Hint.

I hate Model 70's. Hint.

You get (5) in the SAAMI belly and (4) In Aye Eye. The Trijicon rides the Aye Eye now and amidship,in tough territory. Hint.

The Skinner's .650BC is real and they are amazingly ruggedly reliable and slip Real World conditions well. Shim removal, being an obvious given. Google as you must and nod pencil necks, like you "understand". Hint.

Feel free to return to your Drooling Brokedick Pretendathon and simply pardon wares that exist. Hint.

JKOB, Jim Kobe had another one in stock, I just bought another one from him...I'm phasing out my Model 70 style Mauser safeties, which are good but on the wrong side of the receiver for snap shooting in my opinion.. I think he sent it to me for 45 bucks IIRC.
As an aside and purely opinion without a whole lot of experience, when I was on the northwest coast in DEW Line country, I used a number of cartridges, 06, 8mm-06, .35 Whelen, and in those days a very rare bird the 9.3 (what a pain sending to Seattle or the Olde Western Scrounger for ammo). I loaned my rifles out a lot to village friends, when I was off fixing generators, and if the rate of borrowing equated to what worked well, (mostly moose) I'd say the 8mm-06 was the most popular...I don't know why for sure, but I was handloading it with RWS H Mantle 196gr which was a great bullet. As a comedy interlude, I can mention the 8mm-06 also bagged a pretty nice sized bowhead whale.

I wasn't going to bother posting anything 'til you posted the above. Having owned and used a fair number of Model 21 I can definitely say with absolute certainty that the Model 21 safety is less than ideal with open sights, and a pain the the arse with a lowish scope.

Better off with a ZG47 safety mounted on the right side. I have one here that is going on my daughter's 7x57.

These are my opinions, feel free to disagree.
