But if I'm going to do something like this I would cut to the chase and explain what he was charged with. The circumstances etc... and why it was wrong. Not simply ask people to take him at his word.
There was enough chest pounding about I don't use Electronics etc.... why not? but you later said you use sat phone? Electronics can give an exact location of where you are and prove you perfectly legal if that was an issue. Or maybe it was something one trooper said was ok and another didn't? I don't know, but we ask troopers sometimes, but generally speaking we read the laws as troopers are humans and who is to say they were not wrong about what they said? If you were illegal because of it you still were illegal and didn't do due diligence.
I'm about at 20 minutes in and at one point he said all records are sealed. Then he says later you can go look all that up for yourself if you want to. I mean if you want to put this out how about you tell us the whole story.
Not even knowing your case number? When you prepared to do this were you drunk or just mad and didn't care.
One big thing to me is the fact you plead and paid a fine. Didn't want to fight but then changed your mind.
That said I think the abbott guy being dismissed is something to think about. Whether he is crooked or appears crooked...
The fact that troopers confiscate so they can buy later... thats a far stretch for me. But it could be.
Will watch the rest later at some point. But at this point I'm gonna be neutral on the whole thing.
As a whole I've not had a bad issue with AST. I had a bad issue w federal game once... but again it was a single issue and it does not make federal game corrupt as a whole so to speak.
Hopefully later today the last 10 minutes will make me a better believer. Though I prefer to believe AST.
Maybe Chip can chime in , have not seen him post in a long time either. I know he ran into some serious issues with AST. And all of that was expunged later IIRC.
I know that for some LEO the power does go to their heads.
We can keep Larry Root and all his idiotic blabber and user names on here, but we can't get Ralph back..... Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over....
Thinking some more. He basically threatened in some form of violence had they taken his handgun. Not just any old gun mind you but some special bla bla that was not relevant to the story.
And he makes a big deal about boots. Boots can show tracks.... IE evidence.
I dont' know of ANYBODY that goes out that far off road so to speak, especially in an ATV that doesn't bring 2 pairs of footwear..... so the boots should have basically been a non issue.
And the tail. You pull over and wave at a pretty woman in an obvious vehicle and she goes on... is or was that a tail or was that your imagination that you are that important to tail?
Just thinking a bit. Out the door and back later.
We can keep Larry Root and all his idiotic blabber and user names on here, but we can't get Ralph back..... Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over....

Not sure why Alaskan LEO’s are special as the rest of the country is full of crooked cops. Fact is all you have to do is pick up a paper to see how many departments have corruption. Frequently it’s as simple as senior officers coming to the realization late in their career that they never made enough money. That they joined up to “ Serve & Protect “ what a croc that was. Most that I grew up with joined up quite simply for egotistical motives like power and that I’ll get even with them. Cops don’t rat on cops so unless it’s a homocide or as serious they see something it stays inside. Picking a little fruit is in many departments just considered a ‘ unscheduled benefit ‘
I myself had a Marlin 36, a Rem 722, and S&W 25 removed from my truck for a traffic stop by the Norwalk Sheriffs in CA. Back license plate fell off and one defective tail light. These two went through the truck found nothing they but saw a pile of empty mostly crushed beer cans in the bed which got them going. Against the truck for a shake down, called one ass—— so it escalated to resisting arrest. So. To the station and a cell, truck towed. When I got out and paid impound fees my guns were gone. When I asked the desk Sgt about the guns he said no mention of firearms in the report. Then it occurred to me my biggest fear getting pulled over was the guns and they never mentioned them. My attorney just told me they were gone so forget it.

No one ever said there is zero corruption. But is AST as a whole corrupt? I'm lucky I've not seen a majority of LEO be corrupt.
There will always be a bad apple or three.
Its tough to be nice when stopped I suppose at times. Always found things go smoother that way. But you should not have to. You should be able to call them whatever you want as long as you don't threaten them.
Damn shame to read this RE the guns.
I guess I'm lucky that most of our contacts with LEO have been positive. And that about all but 2 that I can recall in school ended up being really good LEO. 2 were complete azz and should never have passed the mental competency.
Of course there are crooked guides. Crooked hunters. Crooked Christians that will take you for all they can in a heartbeat too unfortunately.
My last stop, speeding approaching a construction zone. Pulled us over. normal stuff, and how fast were you going? I told him I was talking to my wife at the time, we were excited, we had not been to a rifle match in many years and we were on our way to meet up with friends at a rifle match. I said I honestly have no clue what the speed limit is here or how fast I was going.
He laughed, we talked a bit. He asked about my AK license, we were in TX. He said pay attention, slow down. No warning. Didn't care we had a bolt gun in the front seat that I always have there. And a couple of AR 15 in the back seat. And that we were both carrying concealed. State Trooper.

Tim and his buddy found a honey hole off of the Dalton Highway. He found some gold there and he put a mining claim on it. He used 6X6s to get to his gold claim. He would then hunt around his gold claim. He and his buddy would get bull moose there every year. One year his buddy had his inreach hit emergency by accident. The Troopers came in and found them with moose. They waited till they got to the highway and cited them. A Wildlife trooper got a bit overzealous and seized trophies, meat, 6 x wheelers, rifles, and even boots. Tim hired Joe Miller who urged them to file guilty charges but keep moose trophies and gear. The AST in question didn't listen to the judge's decision and kept the gear anyway. That trooper was eventually fired for it. Because Tim didn't stuff back he had Miller reopen the case and he got all of his stuff back and charges dismissed. I am sure that his legal fees approached and eclipsed 10K.
While the dismissed Trooper violated the law and didn't adhere to the decision of the court, Tim must know that using an ATV to access a hunting area off of the Dalton highway is generally a violation of the law. So its tricky... He basically used his gold mine as a ruse so he could sidestep the general rules of the public that prohibit access because he used the ATV to get to his property and he legally hunted at his property and than transported his property and the production of the mine to the road which is legal.
Most Troopers I know are excellent but in this case a Trooper decided that this guy was illegally hunting and he made it as difficult as he could on the guy because Tim was using money and legal protection to skirt the rules. I know that the guides that get by with shifty stuff do things that are similar and it may be that the Trooper had had enough of that crap.
Im no lawyer but unless I'm missing something this doesn't seem too complicated. He used an ATV to get through the corridor to hunt and transport out the meat and antlers. Best I know thats not legal, gold mine or not.
Glad I didn't waste a half hour of my life listening to him ramble about being a victim.

Don’t get me wrong about LEO’s there is no doubt almost all are dedicated to the job and play by the rules. I was surprised to hear about a couple of Alaskan Troopers anyway. I guess I just assumed when you live in the far North or lightly populated Western states this kind of behavior just doesn’t exist. Corrupt law officers are generally encountered in the big ugly crime ridden cities. Those who police these streets see and deal with more crime and corruption in a week than a Pocatello Sheriff does in his career. Living and working face to face with so much filth is like the guy who works in the sewers every day, after a while he doesn’t even smell it anymore. In that respect I can almost understand how a cop becomes numb to his surroundings a case of losing his moral compass. From a distance there is no excuse for this but unfortunately it’s almost, almost understandable to a degree. You wrestle with pigs you’re bound to get dirty. Suicide rates with big city police is unproportionally high and there is a pyschological reason.
Years ago in the mid 70’s I lived in Miami working ship assist tugs and tramp freighters on the Miami River and knew three single Miami PD officers. Off shift we would hang around a small river bar drinking beers and shooting pool and occasionally borrowing a company boat to fish Biscayne Bay. During the 70’s it wasn’t uncommon for the local cops to raid a house and stumble into a nest of drug dealers. Often they’d find paper sacks full of big bills. Hundreds of thousands of paper money from who knows where, unmarked and un-accounted for. Let them go, no reports. What a temptation. Dealers won’t say a word of course and nobody but the cops know. Dangerous business. One of the cops I knew after twelve years in the department retired and moved to Belize I was told. Yes the moral thing would be report it and log the dinero as evidence but I learned there were lots of early retirements during those years often with false paid-for medical reports to justify the retirement. Ask yourself, and try to imagine being a middle aged Miami cop making less than a Cuban plasterer or tug boat hand. You’re tired of the same old crap and finding a shopping bags full of money with no connections ??
IE are you saying AST is basically corrupt or basically not corrupt. OR are you inferring that Sundles is wrong or right?
Just trying to get an idea of where you stand.
Morning, rost492'
To clarify, I was not saying anything on your list in this quote above.👆
Glad to answer you as regards "where I stand."
I have been blessed to have many friends in the "brown shirt" organization, and have been even more so to have hunted all over Alaska in my 65 year tenure here. In any endeavor that exists, you will find both good and bad actors, make no mistake. A simple fact-lesson learned decades ago.
To color any group as bad because of a single "bad actor" will never pass my lips. I prefer to have the plain and simple facts of the matter. In this case, the trooper was wrong, went "full monty" on the guide, then disobeyed a judge, etc. He was a bad actor and paid for it. Done.
The guide went out of his way to figure out how to bend the rules. Did he bend them so far something broke? Perhaps. By his own (suggested by his attorney) guilty plea, he chose money (value of possessions) over his good name. Truth is, most realize that false charges can be a thing where pleading to a lesser charge may be the only way out. Later, it was all dropped.
What does this qualify the guide as in this good/bad scenario? I would make a third category. It would simply be labeled as "Self-centered Idiot."
Would I ever use the services of Tim? No, not ever. To quote the LOTR, "He looks fair, but feels foul."
For the life of me, I cannot understand why he bothered with making the video, unless he felt it necessary for maintaining his "professional" guide status. If that's the case, he failed badly. . .
