Interesting. So a Ruger American Gen 2 Predator in 7-08 will work. I have a goodly humber of these A-Max’s to get rid of and a cheapo rifle to shoot them up is better than trying to sell the bullets. Heck the value of the bullets exceeds the value of the rifle.

Had/have an old Liljee 7-08 spout and figured "Fhuqk it?!?",to see WTF. No issues. Hint.
Just sayin'..............

There's a difference between marginal stability and ideal stability, and a 1:8.5" twist in the RAR Gen2 7-08 will achieve ideal stability when launching the 162 AM at 2600+ fps. Even the 9.5" twist in the Gen1 was enough to achieve ideal stability in anything warmer than -10 F at sea level.
That barrel has sold ALOTTA 7-08's and 162's. Hint.(grin)

I have everything but the rifle. RAR’s have been good to me accuracy wise and I’m invested in the platform. Hopefully the Gen2 stock is better than the Gen1 for stiffness, it might be good enough to just shoot the rifle without changing out a bunch of things. Well, except triggers. They all need fixing by knocking the pins out and putting a Timney or better in it.

You want one wearing AICS DBM and then you can drive binderless mags, for greater COAL and a 162 Smooch. Hint.
Drop the "safety" lever from the trigger, toss it and the associated spring away and you are there. Hint.

Cheapo Magpul Hunter stock has AICS. It’s worked well enough on my RAR 6.5 Creed that another is in order here. I did the flippy lever delete and even a spring change and prefer the Timney to the factory trigger.

In every instance, the newest versions are slicker. Hint.

I've used the 162 amax in my rem 700 ss mtn 7-08 for years. I also used a lot of them in my kimber montana 7 wsm. They shoot great in both.
My 700 is stainless in 280 didn't shoot them that great but I don't know that it was a twist issue. That 280 did love 150g nbts and 150g partitions though. If it would have shot high bc stuff better I'd still have it.
I think I'm down to my last 10 boxes or so of 162 amaxes. I could replace them with eldms but I've gone to the 180 eldm the last few years. I haven't tried the 180s in my 700 mtn 7-08 yet so it'll be interesting to see how they stabilize. I run the 180s in my barret fc 7-08 but it has an 8.5 twist. It shoots them great. My seekins element 7 prc likes the 180s too. I killed an elk with them at around 470 yards.
A local shop had a bunch of 162 eldms for 50% off a few years ago. I got distracted buying several other bullets they also had on sale and didn't pick any up. I'm regretting it now because they're a good option if a 180 won't stabilize in a gun. The 162 in a 7-08 is great for deer .
Thanks BB, good info. Since I only have Magpul AICS mags to go by, are the “binderless” mags metal with thinner walls allowing for longer OAL? And if so who makes the best?
