Let’s hear y’all’s thoughts on best wide view “high” eye relief scopes. My ole man’s vision is going downhill so I’m looking for something to aid him.

Leupold Vari-X/VX-three series, 1.5-5x20. Any generation.
They may not have widest FOV, the longest eye relief, the best glass, but they have the best combination of those things, and none others have a larger eyebox.

My friend has a Redfield that he loves, for about half invested, of what the very nice Leopold scopes go for. He's very happy with his.
I won't knock the Leopold as it's always made a nice scope. IMO!

A Leupold VXIII 1.75-6 32 with heavy Duplex would be a fit.

Wide field of view means low magnification. There are lots of LPVO's on the market. Unfortunately they're usually built on a 30mm tube and heavy as a brick but if you don't mind having a brick lashed to the top of your rifle they'd probably do. Other than that a low power Leupold like the previously mentioned 1.5-5x20 or a 2-7x33 would fit the bill and not be heavy as a brick.

I was talking with my friend and he told me that he had a NIB, never used Red field Wide Field Illumination, with a range finder built in it also. He said he would sell it for $500.00 bucks, if someone was interested. If interested, you can PM me and I can get back to you next week, after vacation. It's not going nowhere, as far as that goes, if someone's interested.

Fixed power, preferably a Leupold FX3 6x.

A good 1-6x or 1-4x 30mm LPVO will give you a wide field of view, especially on lower magnification. I have a Leupold VX-6 1-6x, Vortex Razor 1-6x and Steiner 1-4x that are in that category.
They weigh from about 15 ounces (VX-6) to about 21 ounces (Razor). Not super light but they all have a good eye box and a much wider field of view than a Leupold VX3 1.5-5x which I also have. They all have illumination too, which I think is very nice to have.

I have 2 Redfields in 3 x 9 in the widefield....one is the Illuminator. Bought my first one in late 70's from a guy at a convience store.....he opened his car trunk and pulled it out...think I paid him little less than $100 brand new. Still looks new and clear as a bell. I have several of the Redfields when they were top of the line in scopes...never had one fail in any way and holds zero after all these years.

If you can stumble across one, Japan made Tasco used to have some models shaped like a tv screen Don’t remember the FOV , but seems it was wide There were other manufacturers that made the tv screen type too I have the Tasco and another brand somewheres in building
Don’t recall clarity , been a while since I looked through them But Jap made tasco’s were good scopes at one time Kenneth

I read many years ago the the old "TV screen" variables were not any wider view than the same scope in a round picture . However , the fixed power "TV screen" were wider than their round picture counterparts.

Sightron S1 1.75-5x32, above mentioned Leupold With Mainer’s breathless review in mind…. I mounted a S1 1.75-5 late last summer for a friend and had it a few days. The eye relief is decent, but nowhere near the Leupold. Cool thing about the S1 eye relief doesn’t hardly change through the magnification range. Eyebox ain’t bad. Doesn’t control flare as well as the Leupold and contrast isn’t as good. As I measure it FOV is about 3ft more with the S1 than the Leup at low mag. And as I measure it the S1 actual mag is 1.9x to 4.4x. My VX-III is 1.6-4.5. Despite having a higher low mag the S1 has a greater FOV, which I thought was interesting. For the money the S1 is a heck of a scope. Still thinking about getting one….
