I never had a sunk in a coon cuff . I didnt shoot it cause if it sprayed it would go to a good neighbors house. What do you all do to kill it without it spraying?

I wouldn't know. I just caught one Saturday. Tried the "shoot in the chest " method. He didn't spray till he died. I think they release when they die regardless.

There used to be an injection stick you could kill them with. I had great luck talking softly to them until they relaxed, then a 22 short in the lungs and came back later. They made great looking mittens. Injection pole link https://www.coyotehunter.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1582

Most all of the trapping supply houses have skunk sleeper adapters for a painting pole. RP Outdoors, Cumberland's, F&T, etc.
Been wanting one myself, but other things have priority

There's a reason all my traps are within a few feet of a fish pond, lol.
Try a 1 oz load of #8's, and still bag and tie them post haste.

I just shoot the skunk and give it a few hrs to disperse the scent some. My trapping bibs maintain a skunk scent. Unfortunately part of the process.
Think i need a bigger gun

This topic has been covered numerous times. The guys who have actually killed a lot of skunks in traps almost to a man, recommend a low power, non hollow point, to the lungs.
I’ve trapped canines since I was 14 years old. I’m 65 now. I’ve tried every method and always come back to low power 22 (CB short or long, subsonic solid, or 17 or 22 pellet rifle). Out of north of 100 foot trapped skunks less than 10% sprayed with a lung shot. Yeah the rare one will spray. You can talk to them in a calm voice and move slowly when near them. If they seem agitated back up a step or two and let them calm down. A careful shot to the lungs with a low powered round, on a non agitated skunk is the best scenario for a no spray outcome.

As of yesterday , he still was not dead. I am going to shoot it today cause the wind is going away from any close houses. I figure it is severely dehydrated by now.

We catch one or two skunks a year in a live raccoon trap. They seem to like our chicken coop. We shoot them in the head with the 22 in the trap. Sometimes they spray, sometimes they don’t. It’s something you just have to deal with. It only takes one small drop of the stink juice to emit the strong smell. They get a burial at sea in the river down the road. The scavengers eat them when they end up on the river bank. With warmer spring weather in the air, I’ve smelt skunk near the coop recently, the live trap is currently set but nothing has been in it for the last week. We check it daily.

The syringe is the way to go. Talk to them, walk slowly and the head will be on the ground with no spray before the full 10cc is in them. I always give them a second dose just to be sure. If they do spray, the peroxide, Dawn dish soap and baking soda cocktail will INSTANTLY kill the smell.
I am always looking for factory wood stocks!

My brother has had some success shooting them in the lungs with a 22 short or CB cap. That’s not a fool proof method, but it works most of the time. He tries to do it from a hide or when time skunk is not agitated. After the shot, leave and come back a few hours later.
