"Reporter" at work....

"The Chugach Mountains shoot up from near sea level".....

They come straight out of the ocean, not "near" sea level. Idiot.

las,
I remember an magazine article written by a lady from a Nu-York based magazine. Was re-printed on the 10th anniversary of the 64 quake.Appears that she had been miss-informed somewhat by a genuine mAk. "joker."

In her article, she had written something to the effect of "and now the State Government will be mandating that all replacement building and all new buildings will be made earthquake proof. This will be accomplished by utilizing RUBBER foundations that will allow the buildings to sway with the quake, thus protecting the integrity of it's contents."

What was it that PT Barnum said... "There is One born every minute?"

Another fatality yesterday in Turnagain Pass; a young snowmachiner on Seattle Ridge.

Nasty and persistent weak layer. Damn sad.

Very sad day for all concerned. A youngster out for some fun with his friends and/or family and so many lives changed in an instant. Wife and I were discussing this today as we drove home from the gym.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

It has been some years back a lot of military men died high-marking in Turnagain Pass. Might have been seven or nine young men.

ALASKA is a "HARD COUNTRY for OLDMEN". (But if you live it wide'ass open, balls'to the wall, the pedal floored, full throttle, it is a delightful place, to finally just sit-back and savor those memories while sipping Tequila).

And the president of ConocoPhillips Alaska died in one there also. Changed the whole direction of the company, and not for the better.

Another "yep."

Yes. Was the south end of Turn. Pass, about a half mile past the potty stops. Was headed to Anchoraga and saw the search crews at their work. About another half mile of the whole mountainside came down to within 300 yards (give or take) of the highway.

🙁

IB,

Talked to a friend yesterday morning about the avalanche. His son and daughter were both invited to go. He told them no. He was quite shaken still as to how close a call it was...

All were hockey buddies...

I quit hi-marking the wall when I was 13. Dad said it stained... and he would beat my ass if I did it again.

I don't funq with the mountains in snow season. Much.

Sad that some don't get it.

But then I'm old and no longer invulnerable, and not a little chicken. smile

If you hike up turnigain pass in the summer and look down into the trees there's quite a few machines piled up in there. Tough way to kill a bear, but it's nice to put on a show for the tourists!
