He ended WW2

WWII needed ending before more countries were devastated. If we'd had to invade Japan, more than a million more people could have died.
But then Truman turned around and got us into an illegal war in Korea. We haven't fought a legal war since Japan surrendered.

Read the book, " Countdown 1945" by Chris Wallace. It will go over many things we didn`t know at the time. Very interesting read.

Truman integrated the armed forces

I was with some AF buddies visiting the Truman Library in August of '95. There were WWII veterans there for the 50th of the bombings. I'll never forget their gratitude towards Truman for making that call. They felt their lives were saved, and their children and grandchildren's. By '45, there were no illusions about the Jap's suicidal tenacity.

Truman didn't use the office to get wealthy. After his time was up he lived a very plain modest lifestyle. When the assassination attempt was made on him he armed himself with a revolver and shot at his attackers from a second-floor window! He was a WWI Army veteran.

Ended WW2, could have done the same in Korea but apparently he thought it was OK to sacrifice ~50,000 GIs and leave the pot in the burner. 👎

Harry Truman did not "make that call" - the process of the nuclear program from the beginning was to end in nuclear bombings and he didn't interfere in that process. Learn your history.

I'm not sure that was entirely correct. I've stood at the point of Task Force Smith which is located on Osan Air Force base and you can feel the presence of those who fought and died on that spot. That was pretty much the start of the Korean War. The Norks started it and were later assisted by hordes of Chinese who died by the dozens in mass suicide attacks.
I remember when JFK was assassinated. Within a two hour period I was along with a lot of other GIs posted on the perimeter and they thought the Norks and Chinese just might jump the 38th Parallel. No one was happier than I was that they didn't. The AF doesn't exact train their people for combat although I've heard they may do a better job these days.


On Harry Truman, he was thrown into an extremely nasty situation when FDR passed on. He had to learn quickly and no doubt made some mistakes. I think he did OK considering the circumstances.

He likely saved my dad’s life. Dad was wounded on Okinawa, but likely would have gone in to Japan if there was an invasion.

He is the only president (ex) that I have ever laid eyes on. We were driving by his house in Independence one rainy morning in the mid 1960's and he was out walking around the property. No secret service to be seen.
