My 50th birthday is coming up soon and after several discussions with my wife about what I want - I have decided to go for a 50 for 50 quest. 50 new to me firearms over the next year (got the ok to start a few months early). I am sure that I won’t be able to keep them all but plan on enjoying the process and keeping my favorites. Lever guns are my focus but not going to be disappointed if a few high walls and low walls slip into the mix along the way. I am sure that I will post some updates along the way ( including if I am still married at the end).
Wish me luck let the fun begin.

I wish that were the case. I have a loving wife who wanted to buy me a new truck and after a lot of discussions about that I have her onboard with this instead. We just got our vehicles all paid off a while back so that is what I’m starting with - I also have plenty to sell or trade along the way( I did cheat a little and started about 8 months early). All in all I think this is more exciting to me than a new vehicle or international travel right now as we are both coming out of some major health issues. Just going to try and enjoy the experience of it all.

Happy Birthday!
How about starting off with a Custom Winchester 1885 Schuetzen Rifle in 32/40. Built on an antique receiver, so can ship direct to your door!

That just might be the best pickup line I’ve heard in 20 years. Jokes aside - WOW just WOW- what a beautiful piece of history you have. Just a few months ago I owned just one lowly Winchester 94 30-30 that belonged to my mother and now here we are. I am truly flattered but I am not sure I am ready for that. I have seen a few examples of those over the years at the Tulsa gun shows and what you have done with yours looks amazing.

I have probably done about 25 firearms this year but I have also traded several trade baits for higher quality guns. I did buy about 6 for my retirement last year. It was a pretty good snap of good guns too. Hopefully, your wife trusts your predilections.

She green lighted me starting about 7 months early on this and so that gives me another 15 months or so of “working “ on this. I know that I won’t have the means to keep them all but I also know that I have added a few already that I have no intention of ever getting rid of. Sometimes I think she may enjoy them just as much as I do.

Good luck. As was said please keep us up with them. RZ.

Time and how your interest changes with age. Used to chase every new caliber down the pipe, then I got hung up with pre lock S&W’s and old Rugers - now I went most of my life owning just 1 lever gun but I have caught the bug and away I go.

Right now old Remingtons are seeming to bring a premium around here and Savage 99s are a deal. I have bought 4 this year. I am also wrangling for another old 1895 Marlin. I have bought 1 Winchester Model 71 Special and a New 1886 Miroku 45/70 SRC. I bought two other marlins- 336 JM 30-30 and a 1950 336 Marlin Waffletop in 32WS. I bought a Mark X in 7 Rem Mag and a Remington 660 in 222. Not much on 94s but I would really like to find a good condition 64. I need a Marlin 39a probably before other things. I also purchased a New Vidania Winchester Model 70 Alaskan in 375 HH. Nice wood and standard weight barrel. I bought a Pre War Model 70 in 22 Hornet with a K4 weaver and stith mounts. Finally I bought a early model Cooper model 36 in 22lr. I Savage 110 ss 338 for 175. 1 Ruger 77 in 338 win. 1 Sig Cross Trax in 308 Win. The rest is mainly handguns. I bought a CZp09sc. I bought 1 blackhawk in 44 Rem mag. I bought 1 blackhawk in 41 mag. I bought two Sig P365xmacros, 1 Springfield 1911DS Prodigy 4.25 Comp, 1 Kimber KDS9c Rail, and 1 SW642 centennial 38 special. That is about it this year but I have a BSA1917 in 30/06 done by glen gregory on layaway. I am angling to buy another 1893 Marlin in 30/30 and a Brno 21h in 8x60 at the next gun show. After that I will probably slow down unless I find something fantastic.

Wow. Since I turned 50 a few months ago I've been thinking about whittling down the collection. I definitely don't want more of the things around. We're just on different trajectories. Which is fine

I have always been a hunter first, a collector second and shooter a distant third. My hunting adventures are dwindling down so I have been spending much more time shooting and collecting and right now I’m enjoying it. I will definitely thin the heard along the way- my pocketbook will force me too but that’s always been part of my plan. I don’t know if I will get to 50 guns before my 51st birthday next year but it seems doable. I am just going to enjoy the journey. Who knows- by next year maybe I’ll want that new truck and sell them all.

I had to have the new truck already. So adding a pile of guns really isn't an option for me

Nice, 50 on the 50th should be properly started with a 50 cal lever gun, 1886 50-110 WCF Turnbull would be a class act first move, good luck and have fun.
