First day of youth season. First gobble wasnt until after 10am and he just didn't want to play yet, henned up. After messing around with him for about an hour, we left and grabbed some lunch and decided to try another spot midday and if nothing happens go back to where the first bird was hanging around. Maybe catch him late afternoon. We sat down at 12:15 called pretty aggressive the first time around, a bird gobbled at 12:25 probably 200 yards off, gobbled again at 12:35, still way off. 12:55, about the same. He is in some really thick stuff, you wouldn't think a turkey would be in it. We grabbed our stuff and set out to find an opening, there's a small one with some big pines but we couldn't even get to it. We had probably moved 100 yards closer to the bird at that point and stood there and yelped a couple times and went back to where we were initially setup. We hadn't sat long back down and he gobbled right in front of us, a couple moments later a red head, then another one. Two long beards pop out. We got lucky we didn't bump them when we tried to close the distance, just yet another reminder of why to be patient. Anyway, one was fairly alert and held back behind some brush, this one came on out we got a good look at him and decided to make it happen.
