I like the .17 on anything up to about a fox and a 6mm on coyotes and wolves. It's that very flat trajectory up to about 300 yards, coupled with negligible recoil that makes the .17 so good on very tiny critters, and coyotes and wolves are often running so the 6mm gives a bit of leeway if shot placement isn't perfect. 25gn Vmax in the .17 and switching to the 80gn ELD-VT in the 6mm.

I can count on one hand the amount of running coyotes I’ve shot, and they were all after shooting their mate first. I’ve learned that it’s a waste of time and they usually stop.

Lever to get 3300 with 62's out of a 223? Simply ask 'em who has shot a Slookum 223 with a 62 ELD VT at 3300fps Are you using LVR to get this velocity? Thanks

You pictures are worth a 1000 words. The one thing that no other calibers beats the .17 at. Saving fur. Dead fur bearers and no sewing. The critters looker like they died a natural death.
Died in place.

The critters looker like they died a natural death. that is one of the main things I’m looking for when I choose a cartridge for this custom rifle I won. I just don’t see a need to blow big holes in anything I shoot, especially animals with nice fur.

Thanks Lever gets the nudge,in most things .378" and well into .473". Hint. It did nice thangs this morning,in Heavy Chevy(28" Retard 14" RPM Swift). Hint. ![[Linked Image from imagizer.imageshack.com]](https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/xq70/924/E2v0zi.jpg) ![[Linked Image from imagizer.imageshack.com]](https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/xq70/924/3IlRhm.jpg) ![[Linked Image from imagizer.imageshack.com]](https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/xq70/922/RwuCLW.jpg) It obviously meters exceptionally, has a rather nice burn rate, affords positive load densities and arranges trite ES/SD,in multpile chamberings. Hint. Want 3300fps with a .395 BC 62 ELD,in a 7" RPM 21" 223? It's your bitch. Lapooey brass, moly smooches and 400's for me. Hint. Pardon my simply shooting it all and then some,as the OP practices her Imagination and Pretend, while submitting Brokedick Professional Victim Hurt Feeler Reports, while lying to herself. Hint. LAUGHING! Just sayin'................

I default that propellant in 17 Rem,223,223AI,270,224 Grendel,224Wby,22-250(Retard RPM),22-250AI(Retard RPM),Swift(Retard RPM),ARK,243 Grendel,BR and Dasher. Hint.
Jumping from there,I typically swap flavors, which is very often Super' and for like reasons. That in Good RPM and increased BC's,starting with The Kitten/112's and going on up/through to Mouser and .796 BC's. It's fhuqking sensational in 338 Winny, with 250 Skinners too. Amongst other things. Hint.

Scottprice, since this is a custom rifle, instead of the .17 Rem, how about the .17 Fireball?

Fireball is in the radar as well, I have heard that it’s harder to cycle due to case shape though, that’s my only concern. Also looking at the 17-556

Wouldn't the .17-556 be the same as the .17 Rem?
Being a custom rifle the feeding issue with the .17 FB would be dealt with before leaving the shop/gunsmith.

Wouldn't the .17-556 be the same as the .17 Rem?. Performance yes, but I won’t have to worry about sourcing brass with the 17-556

This Retarded Schit Show is as fascinatingly HILARIOUS,as watching a Jerry Lewis Telethon, supply drivers for NASCAR! The cross-eyed crashes, are funnier than fhuqk,ONLY because you are trying your hardest. Read that again. Now one more time. Hint.
Just how fhuqking far backwards, can you go? That ain't a "Dare",but simply encouragement,as you "bravely" schlep STUPIDITY,to places it's never been before. HINT.
Bullets FIRST,killer brass second and you "have" NONE of it,which is "impressive". Hint.
Fhuqking LAUGHING!.............

once again stick is not getting it. Comparing a 62 grain fast twist 223 to a 17 anything?!? I have to ask WTF. they are not similar cartridges and have totally different uses. the 17's secret sauce is ubber flat shooting with killing power to 350+ and little to no recoil. Its a friggen varmint cartridge! fast twisting a 223 it trying to make an already weak sauce cartridge into something that is supposed to be able to shoot extra distance. its 10 pounds in a 5 pound sack. Or a goat ph uck scenerio. wanna shoot distance? for crying out loud. use something better than a 223!
I digress. I have wore out the barrel in my 17 fireball recently. I shoot 20 grain vmaxes at about 4000. I can load and shoot it for about the price of factory 17 HMR. its got an 18 inch suppressed barrel on it. it will puff into a cloud of wafting feathers twit birds, blood mist rock squirrels. for varmints its the harvester of sorrow. it does this with about the recoil of a 10-22 or a springer air gun. you can see the hydrostatic shock sometimes as the bullet impacts. Its also killed 8 coyotes, as targets of opportunity, most did require a finisher. The problem with using a 17 for anything larger than varmints is its tuff to get 25 and 30 grain hollow points anymore.
my hunting buddy has shot several hundred coyotes at least with his 17 predator. but he runs 30 kindler golds which are no longer made and has a stash of them to wear out a couple barrels.
I would like to try the all copper 17 bullets that are out now. it autta be interesting combining that much speed with a bullet that will not break apart all the way. but pacnor isn't fast with barrel turn around. its varmint season and I am jonesing to have my baby back in action with a new tube on it. so in short YES 17 remington, YES 17 fireball, YES 17 centerfire anything. its my all time favorite rifle.
