I have an acquaintance looking for a brand new Zastava M70 bolt action sporter in .22-250. I've been to Zastava's web page and checked all their distributors but none are on hand and no time frame as to when they might get a .22-250 in. I've tried to steal him towards Ruger and Winchester since he wants CRF, but he's adamantly wanting a 98 action. I've suggested several used commercial and military sporter 98 rifles, but he won't spend his money on a used .22-250 because he can't borescope it, nor does he want to rebarrel a rifle.
Does anyone have a lead as to where such a rifle can be purchased? I thought I'd give it one last try, before I tell him I can't find anything.

I wonder if it would be worth a call to an outfit calling itself "Ocala Armory". They almost always have an ad in Guns International for Zastava weapons (tactical stuff) listing NIB. They must get their inventory from somewhere...maybe they are a licensed importer. I'd sure like to know if you find a source...the well made Mauser sporting rifle is not dead yet in my area.
Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

I've contacted most distributors of Zastava firearms, the only bolt action being imported regularly is the mini action in 7.62X39. It isn't that big of a deal if I can't find one. He knew it was a long shot to begin with. I figure there must not be enough demand for them to import, as most said they're selling mainly the AK style rifles.
I'll check Ocala out.

Too bad he's insisting on brand new...Zastava comes up occasionally, and for a few years around here, Rocky Mtn Elk dinners kept a pretty fair supply of Remington 798's (Zastavas) on the market. Young men don't like Mausers and they would sell them as soon as they won them, usually in the low 400 dollar range, NIB.
Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

Find a deal on a clean .243 and just get a new damn barrel. Sheesh.
Funny enough, that's post #243 for me. Either that's a sign for him, or for me to get one....

Herters and Charles Daly also imported yugo mauser rifles. Those would put us into used rifles, unless by chance we stumbled across a NOS rarity. The way the gun market is flooded, I say patience is the key here I don't really have a lot of time to dedicate to finding one. I'm just helping because a friend asked me to help his friend. I've told both that a rebarrel would be the fastest way to one.

Your friend needs to consider a custom rifle and unless he's married to 22-250 he should also think about 22 Creedmoor. I don't really know the guy, I'm asking because a friend asked me to help. My friend shoots praire dogs on his property and sometimes I tag along. He's old and a little hard headed, he doesn't hand load and has other .22-250 rifles. That's why he wants to stick with the .22-250.
