Yesterday while cleaning up some boxes in the basement, I came across my old field knife from my time on active duty and I was curious to its value and how rare is it?

The knife in question is an AL Mar 3006.5 SERE.

I pulled it from its sheath and wiped it down, still has an excellent edge.

Not that my trusty KBAR wasn't sufficient, I bought the knife in 1983 at Camp Mackall prior to deploying to El Salvador as a "trainer" and after several deployments to El Salvador and Honduras the original leather sheath was shot and Al Mar replaced it with a ballistic nylon sheath.

It's been in storage for a long time, and I thought I'd try to find out more about the knife.

You said it in the title...How can someone put a price on an old friend? Priceless would be the value to me, under the same circumstances.

That being said, you could look on ebay at similar knives to see what they sell for (not asking price) and how many are out there listed for sale. Some of those came with different features that might make them more collectable than others. Things like having saw teeth on the back of the blade or the fact that it is a sterile knife could raise or lower the value depending on the collector.

Priceless would be my feeling also. I have a very old Schrade Old Timer with 2 1/2" blade no one has enough money to buy from me. Though I'd lost it last week and drover me crazy till I found it again. Have a number of other pocket knives with blade locks and belt clips that wouldn't bother me near as much to loose. Most of them are Schrade's also but the newer one's.

Mannlicher,

Thanks for the links, that is the knife.

I think I gave $275.00 for it back in 1983.
