Ruger 77 Rsi, 250 Savage, deer hunting in the south, 20-250 yard shots, thick woods from ground stands, box stands on open fields..
Suggestions? Thinking 2.5-8x36 something or ?? Not really a rifle designed for big lumpen scope, anything over 42 or so is just going to be too big.

My 77RL wears a Leupold 2-7x compact. I agree, I would not put anything bigger than the 2.5-8x on your RSI.

A Vortex Razor 1.5-8x32 looks nice on my Mauser 98 with a Mannlicher style stock. You'd have to find a used one though. They're around.

My 700 custom has a smaller Leupold 3-9 x 33 I think.

Sightron S1 1.75-5 would work for that. Something in the 2-7 or 3-9 would work well too, but as sleek as possible. There was a guy on GunBroker that somehow found some old stock new Pentax lightseekers, some in gloss. One of those would be pretty on top of that rifle.

The heaviest/biggest scope you'll ever tote,is the Lightweight Pile Of Schit, that fhuqking Pukes. Hint.
Nothing sighted,is worth a fhuqk. Pun be intended. Hint.
Just sayin'...........

My 250 SVG (700 Classic) has a Leupold VariX II 2-7x33. Been on it since 1988, works great.

Very simple a Trijicon Accupoint 3-9 good scope for the last few moments of shooting light....your choice of yellow, orange or green aim point post or crosshair. Was a bear guide for 14 years had many clinents use one of my rifles with a Trijicon 3-9 to harvest there bear !
I really don't understand why other scope companies haven't jumped on the radio active aim point scopes !

Whatever you get, make sure it can be mounted far enough to the rear for proper eye relief. A Ruger No.1 can be tricky that way, even with Ruger's offset rings.

My favorite hunting scope, that most of my hunting rifles wear is the Leupold 2.5x8. Second place for me would be the 3.5x10 version

I've been using a 2 to 7x leupold for exactly that on my 250 savage for the past 20 years.

I really don't understand why other scope companies haven't jumped on the radio active aim point scopes ! Probably that little thing called patent infringement that leads to lawsuits. I'm pretty sure the Trijicon legally has the only option for tritium.

You could never go wrong with Leupold VX-3 1.5-5x20, sounds small but people have been killing stuff for ages with 4x at the ranges your talking. The Sightron S1 1.75-5x32 is decent. ![[Linked Image from imagizer.imageshack.com]](https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/640x480q70/922/W07wJy.jpg) \ You cant go wrong with a 2x7, too bad they are falling out of favor. The old Burris FF in 2x7 was one I used for prizes at shoots, everyone loved them. With 3-9's I get a little claustrophobic with the narrower FOV on 3x.

Yes, sort of. I've hunted the coastal forests pf WA where the sun doesn't shine for months. The forested northern half of WI and MN, never had the pleasure of shooting lanes. IN the past few years most of my hunting has been coyotes with no time restrictions and if I can see them with my bare eyes I can kill them with a straight tube scope. Weaver V-3 ![[Linked Image from imagizer.imageshack.com]](https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/640x480q70/924/k6uHn5.jpg) Shot here ![[Linked Image from imagizer.imageshack.com]](https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/640x480q70/924/RGmczn.jpg) If they didn't work I wouldn't use them. We're talking about a Ruger 77 RSI in 250-3000 out to 200 yards, not a 6.5 PRC in a 12#+ Beanfield gun.
