What's the word on the next gen release?

Many other models are in gen 3 already...

At this time, no word. Perhaps next year

Will the lens coating include a hydrophilic layer? That would be nice for those of us who hunt in the mist and rain.

Something tells me you wouldn't be very happy with a hydrophilic layer, but you might appreciate one that is hydrophobic. wink

You'd think so, but I believe the mechanism is to break the surface tension down so that droplets don't form.

What Are Hydrophilic Coatings?
Hydrophilic coatings are thin, water-attracting layers applied to various surfaces. When exposed to water or moisture, these coatings spread the liquid evenly, forming a smooth, transparent film rather than letting droplets form. This unique characteristic makes hydrophilic coatings essential in preventing fogging, shedding rain, and managing sweat in motorcycle gear.

Seems counterintuitive, but there you are.

Oh you mean like the old rain guard coating on the older Bushnell 32 4200s...

Bushnell still has it, it's called ExoBarrier now. Maybe it's properties have changed a bit, maybe it's just marketing screwing up a well-known product. Zeiss has a similar coating on theirs as well. I really don't know why it isn't a standard thing on scopes nowadays. I guess it increases the cost of the coating enough that most companies pass on it.

Bushnell's description of Exo Barrier doesn't sound hydrophilic. It's described as water repelling, causing water to run off the lens.

I didn't say that it was hydrophilic. I said they changed the name of Rainguard to ExoBarrier. Rainguard was water repelling.

Unconventional and counterintuitive, but I can see how that could be used. Hydrophobic coatings seem far more common on riflescopes, though.

Rainguard is/was hydrophobic.
