I have a good black powder and smokeless load for my sharps with a 470 bullet I was getting from MT cast bullets. I can no longer get that bullet. My smokeless load was 39.5 yr 3031. I am testing a 535 postel from a Steve brooks mold. Using 30:1 the bullets weigh about 520 instead of 535. Does anyone have a recommended start load for imr 3031?

I heard old buddy Bagwell say 36gr 3031 a thousand times when he spoke of smokeless loads in 45-70, he loaded that with 505gr cast bullets in his Marlin lever gun, the extra 15gr bullet weight with your Postell will be a non issue pressure wise.

Thanks, I found a non official post on another forum that recommended 36.5 of 3031 so it should be in the ballpark.

BTW, old buddy Bagwell dropped a 0.030" Walters fiber wad on top of that load of smokeless, said it helps with lead shear/flame cutting on the base of the bullet, i never questioned it, he's BT&DT, all of it.
