Just spent 7 days living on Mountain House at 5000 to 6000 feet. I like the Chicken Fajita. Chicken and Rice. Chili Mac. I also brought 6 packages of Beef Jerky and added a good portion to every meal. I lived. Wasn’t ever hungry. Oatmeal in the morning. Instant coffee in the bags. Life was good.
We were fortunate. Had running water where we made our base camp.
I’m never too concerned about the food. I’m always concerned about water. You can’t pack enough for 7 to 8 days. Better know where you can find it.

I'm going to carry the foil packs- chicken and tuna and a half or third of MH meal. Been off Carbs/Sugar a long time , but used to like beef stroganoff/lasagna/teriyaki chicken meals the best.

I was doing some research on these types of food; I came across this thread.
Thanks.

I'll take the peak meals if I have heat, the pizza sucks though tried it once never again. The O-Meals are nice for day trips if your not packing any heat they have a little packet when you add water it boils it. There not as big as a peak meal so you may wanna take 2.

Water is critical-purification tablets or boiled. Giardia l aka "beaver fever" can ruin a hunting trip . Prevention is the key. Beavers are everywhere...as to mountain water unless at the spring source. Better safe than....

Back in the day...Shrimp Creole. I loved the taste and saved a few shrimp to use as bait for Montana's trout in mountain lakes.
Side note: while I was dreaming about a long past trip I glanced at 450Fuller's post. Just after the trip I was dreaming about Red Lodge, MT had a water outbreak. My trip was just a couple of valleys west of there. After that trip I always filter or boil all the wild water I consume. I didn't get sick, but it was a wake up call about treating water.

Tell ya what it tastes great but I can’t even stand to stay in the same tent as myself if I eat their chili Mac!
I absolutely LOVE their biscuits & gravy; I bring paper packets of McD’s black pepper and toss 3-4 in before adding the water.
I like their stroganoff & Mac & cheese and honestly haven’t had a bad meal but beyond a couple days I’ve gotta either get higher quality freeze dried meals like Heather’s Choice or something more complicated with less sodium and more fresh flavor.

Oh… I sorta alluded to this with my McD’s pepper reference… but one thing I find super helpful is to keep sauce packets from restaurants I visit in my food bag.
Black pepper, soy/teriyaki, Sriracha, chaloola, etc.
