Wow.... I found this old photo, scanned it on my all-in-one HP printer/scanner/fax and saved it. This is/ was my parents old lakefront cottage from the 70's up in the Adirondacks of northern New York. I remember this... I was fishing/trolling for lake trout and had an old 110 Kodak instamatic camera with me (remember those? LOL!!!) and pulled up near the cottage, and snapped this photo. Date/Timestamp: 1977. The place was called Lake Ozonia up in the northwestern Adirondacks of northern New York. It was a semi-private 3½ mile long small lake 55' deep in the main channel. Lake Trout, Splake (spotted trout & lake trout hybrid), Bass, Perch, and various Sunfish. It was a little slice of Heaven on earth back in the day! ![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](https://i.imgur.com/Ke1SGvR.jpg)

This thread has made me think of those days in Northern Minnesota 60 years ago. Every cabin in that north country always had “boat house” down near waters edge by the dock. Had we the money and forethought pictures of those structures would be awesome. They came in every description and form of materials for construction. Outside cane poles leaned up, basket stringers hanging on the wall, extra ropes. Inside were the poles in the corners, life jackets hanging up, ropes for pulling skiers, more stringers hanging, landing nets, minnow buckets, shelves with mixing oil. Boat gas cans on the floor, extra tanks for running to town, empty and half empty worm buckets. Wooden skis standing against the walls, extra empty coffee cans, a short spade for digging worms, a rake for lakeshore weeds. Empty snuff cans, empty pipe tobacco bags. A block nailed horizontally on the wall for the fishing motor in the off season…. What have I missed?
Osky Northern wisconsin for us. No boat house by the lake we are on a hill. Always had the pleasure of carrying the outboard, gas tank, battery and everything else up and down that. We have a storage area under the cabin and I bet we have 90 percent of what you listed still sitting under there minus skis. You missed the paint cans filled with concrete for anchors, spoon auger, old nets that if you used you could spend the next 30 mins digging your hooks out and at least 1 beer can from each generation over the last 70 years for us there. Minnesota outlawed those great old structures maybe mid 70’s. Most were maybe 8x8 or so. Tackle boxes, used lures and hooks poked into the wall wood “until next time”. Always a plug wrench in there somewhere for the outboard spark plugs. Osky
A woman's heart is the hardest rock the Almighty has put on this earth and I can find no sign on it.

I'll have to find an old photo (somewhere) from 1976 during our Bicentennial in July, when we all put on a waterski "show" for everyone around the bay. 8 of us teenagers all got up on waterskis behind a Berkley Avenger Jetboat with a wicked 427 V8 engine and dual exhaust out the transom! VROOOM.... All eight of us kids all got up on skis and circled the main bay of the lake in front of everyone out on their boat docks... Memories!!!

Earlier today before lunch, I was down at the James River here in Richmond, VA, at the local public park (Robious Landing) and the somewhat repaired floating fishing pier. Look close and you'll see my 70's Daiwa 212 rod and matching Daiwa 7250rla light action reel. Zoom in and you can see the crankbait floating by the dock while I snapped this photo! LOL... This section of the James River is only like 4' - 5' deep at the dock and 8' out in the middle. Power boats go zooming by in the summer, taking kids tubing, with no concern for canoes or kayaks. ![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](https://i.imgur.com/R60XQqjh.jpg)

I had that same setup. The first rod and reel I ever bought with my own money. Long gone now, but that pic brings back lots of memories.

I know not as interesting as the real old pictures but I was fishing lake Michigan for trout and salmon with the old man for as long as I can remember. No idea how old I was here 5 maybe. ![[Linked Image from i.ibb.co]](https://i.ibb.co/G4yczHRj/20250508-163338.jpg)

That sure does look like a nice gill. Used to be a bunch of places he fished you could get some really nice ones. Getting harder these days. I still know of a couple spots we get some huge ones. Found this pic from last summer. I know that tape measure isn't right next to it but still can get an idea. I think i get more excited catching gills that big then anything. ![[Linked Image from i.ibb.co]](https://i.ibb.co/3Y92kysQ/Screenshot-20250509-073813-Gallery.jpg)

Butcha61: My older sister owns a near Xerox copy of your pictured setting in Pa. I'm happily retired here in SE Oregon but would for sure get in more angling time back there. Hope yours is still in the family.

Hope yours is still in the family. Edit: The old lakefront cottage in the Adirondacks? Sadly, it's long gone... Sold in the late 80's, then torn down and a whole new lakefront cottage built in his place. But as far as all the fishing rods/reels... All the stuff is MINE. After my dad passed away in 2002 (age 80 - congestive heart failure), I got all the fishing gear, power tools, and even his old 1963 Sears/Craftsman arc welder that he never showed me how to use. All his fishing gear, his tacklebox, and my fishing gear, is priceless.

A little update and bump back to the top.... I got out my dad's old late 60's Berkley Tri-Sport, 7' spinning rod and Spinmaster Diamond ("clone" of South Bend) reel, and changed out the line on the spare spool in his tacklebox. I spooled on some awesome Fluorocarbon 12# test in a clear coloring. Completely disappears in the water! Now, I have a Med/Hvy action rod/reel to go after Stipers, Flathead catfish, Pike/Musky/Lake Trout (if they exist down here in Virginia)...Edit: This was my dad's pride and joy. Ooooo, the monster fish he used to catch with this when I was a kid!! ![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](https://i.imgur.com/i1VojwIh.jpg)
