Unless air travel, not critical to me. Even for our fly-in moose hunt, we simply use softside.
When I used to fly within continental U.S. for skeet/sporting clays, I packed everything in an SKB hardside golf club case. TSA *loved* it since it camouflaged the actual contents. And provided lots of extra space to pack ammo, shooting paraphernalia, clothes, etc. But then you need a vehicle capable of fitting it!
