They nest on my place most years. The youngsters are fun to watch when they're fledging, out of the nest but can't yet fly. They'll "hide" behind a branch, but peer around it to see what I'm up to.

If cutting government funding shuts down an NGO, it is not a Non Governmental Organization.
They are hell on rabbits. I read where some DNR guys climbed up and looked in a Great Horned Owl nest and there were 20 rabbit skulls in it. They are absolutely beautiful birds though!

A badass of the raptor world for sure. I've watched many outdoors over the years but was at an outdoor show about 10 years ago and a guy had one there that was rescued, I was 2 ft. away from this bird and studied it for awhile, the thing was absolutely incredible!

Found a dead one once, an accident the night before. smelled like a skunk. Ask my bud, a x Ky. Wildlife educator about that. he told me that a GHO was one of few, maybe the only natural enemy of a skunk.
