You have a parent case (5.7x28mmFN) has a cross section bore area of .038146 sq ", it has a case capacity of 13.85 grs h20, you then take this parent case and change the shoulder/neck spec's to your choice etc.

You end up with a wildcat case, 17 cal, h20 case capacity of 11.40grs overflowing,(fire formed on the chamber/reamer spec's you designed).

You sort thru the QL selection of cases in 17 caliber and find the 17 AHornet case, which has a cross section bore area of .02294 sq ", and a case cap of 13.71 grs, (real close to the FN case of 13.85grs).

How close will QL be in it's evaluations (FOR POWDER SELECTIONS ETC), if you CHANGE the parent cases spec's, BORE AREA AND H20 CASE CAPACITY, to your wildcat spec's for case capacity and the bore area to .02294 sq ", close match for the 17 AHornet and your wildcats design.)

The weighing factor for the 17 AH is .75? and I changed the weighing factor to .50. The parent case (5.7x28)Max pressure is 50,300 psi and the 17 AH case pressure is 43,500psi, I then used the max pressure of the 17AH (43,500 psi) for your 17 cal wildcat case.

Will QL give you a RELIABLE starting place for powder selection and working up loads using 17 cal bullet weights from 15 to 25 grs on your wildcat case design, JUST BY CHANGING THESE AREAS OF CASE CAP/BORE AREA, WEIGHING FACTORS etc to match as close as possible your wildcat case?

Is there a better way to set up QL for powder/load selections when you have NO other close cases to work from?
Inquiring minds want to know.

QuickDesign is probably the answer. I am looking onto how one permanently imports a QD case into QL. Carefully reading the manuals as we speak.
