I bought a Bell and Carlson stock for may Savage 110. It dropped right in, but the front action screw is too short in to actually screw into the action in the new stock. I had a similar problem with a Boyd's, so I just opened the hole a bit to allow the screw to sink in further. Problem is, on the B&C stock, there is a steel ring inserted at the opening of the hole, and I can't grind the hole any deeper because of the ring.
Has any one else had this problem? Did the Savage 110 front action screws used to be longer? What's the deal? Any suggestions on what I should do?

BBOtter: First and foremost, length isn't everything! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> Secondly, I have seen this "randon screw length" in Savages before. The solution is simply, get a longer screw. The local hardward store can set you up. I got a shorter stainless screw for a Savage that was having feeding problems--problem solved. BMT

BMT BMT: Are the Savage screws threaded to any particular dimension? How many threads per inch and at what angle?

Sorry. I just went down to the hardware superstore, the "fastener guru" measured the lenght, threads, and pitch, and gave me the next shortest matching screw. Worked like a charm.
Of course, this hardware store had a jillion stainless steel screws to choose from. You may be better off taking the advice from Savage Parts, above.
