Has anyone been working on a conversion of the 375 Ruger in Alaskan or African to a 458 caliber wildcat? It would seem to me that that would be a very potent round for a dangerous game rifle or a 'stopper'.

Should be a good one, I am surprised that Ruger has not done this yet.

Guys: See May/June Rifleshooter. Sundra necked the 375 Ruger up to 416.Seems to work pretty good....

The 280 Remington is overbore.

The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.

Thanks, I can see 416, but I wonder if there would be enough shoulder to headspace on at 458. I kind of doubt it but don't have the brass or dies right now to try it.

I expect they will need some additional work on the stocks: both the wood and synthetic stocks have had cracking problems observed. I don't see any of this in my African Hawkeye, but my round count is low.

Check the big bore forum over on AR. A guy on there made up several versions of dummy rounds to see how they'd turn out. Don't know if he ever built a rifle or not.

Would that be accurate reloading.com? (most likely, maybe)...

Good memory-- this is from a year ago!

edit: Looks like it's this one:

Thanks for the tip. It looks like the 458AR is a better cartridge, off Rem ultramag brass.
