I was looking through the online catalog and could not find any new rifles chambered for it. For that matter, none for the 260 either.

They really don't stand behind their new cartridges very well.

Looks like the 300 Saum is offered in a Model 7 CDL
http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/centerfire_rifles/model_seven/model_seven_CDL_specs.asp
and the 260 in a Special Edition CDL.
http://www.remington.com/products/f...700/model_700_cdl_sf_limited_edition.asp

Pretty skimpy caliber offerings in their standard rifles. Looks like a cost reduction before a sell out?

Yep, they 86'd it.

And, no, they didn't. They never do.

Remington deep six a cartridge? I am shocked! It should be against the law for Remington to bring out any new cartridges with their track record.

Remington definitely has a track record of bum decisions on cartridges when they do the design. On the other hand when they standardize a popular wildcat they do much, much better.

I bet it won't be 1.5"+.

Probably ran 10 or so different loads through mine and none grouped over that measurement. Trigger tune, stock swap, no bedding.

Saw a ss 700 in 300 SAUM today at Gander Mtn - IIRC they wanted $439 for it - it was new but looked beat up from the handling marks.

I'm kind of sad to hear that the .300 SAUM isn't being chambered anymore by Remington. There was an older (a few years) Model 7 in that caliber at a gunstore that I frequent for a very good (for California) price of $550. I considered buying it at least 4 times but didn't because I had a bad feeling that Remington would dump it as soon as my check cleared. I'm not all that happy to have been right.

What the heck are the gun makers thinking with all the short .30s these days? Aren't there like four or five to choose from?

Oh well, I'd rather have a .308 anyway.

Well, the local range for me is the NRA -- 50 yards max. My scope mounting and collimating skills are pretty lousy... the first shot was 5 inches low and 5 inches to the left. Geez! I fired one round at a time for five rounds and walked the shots to zero, then let it cool for about 15 minutes. The next two shots were without any adjustments, and they were touching, but the third was about a half inch to the left. My bench rest skills are pretty lame, so I don't have a real sense for if that flyer is me or the barrel. I was shooting 150 Grain Remington factory loads. Just for grins I fired a couple shots standing unsupported, and the shots were within a couple inches of the x ring. Given that I ain't exactly steady as a rock standing unsupported, I am confident I can snap shoot at a standing deer out to 50 yards. The recoil is not ugly, even from the bench. It seems a couple tads more than my 280, but not so punishing as to develop a flinch, provided I keep the round count low. I fired a total of 10 shots. The rifle is the Ruger M77 Mark II walnut stock with the hard rubber recoil pad. The scope is one of Gr8fulDoug's Vortex 3-9x40 Vipers. I am really pleased with the scope, it is nice and bright. After shooting this rig I am more convinced than ever that all I really need for deer is my 7x57, but shucks, this is my only 30 caliber other than a 30-30. For me the 300 RSAUM is a keeper.
