I think I spelled it right.

Anybody shooting a 6x47 Lapua? Comments?

I'm told I should consider that round instead of the 6x22.250. Ballistically they seem to be about the same. Is it easier to neck down or neck up? Or does it matter?

The 6x47 is just a necked up 222 Rem Mag. Lapua has brass. It is an excellent proposition to work with. No, ballistically it isn't any where near a 6x250. There are just a whole bunch of 6mm's in the 30-60 H2O capacity range to pick and choose from...they all work great...and a bunch using the 250 Sav and 243 case adjusted up and down to arrive at the "optimum" case capacity...mostly in the benchrest and LR target crowd.

I almost did one but changed to the 6mm BR instead for a number of reasons. I used a stub barrel on a NEF frame, an old 6mm take off barrel cut to 16 3/4" and it seems to be shooting OK with 58 gr VMax...several groups running from .500 to .200", so I'm happy as a frog eating flys, as it was just an experimental project to begin with.

The 6X47 Lapua IS NOT the same as the 6X47 as was loaded by Federal.

Its always easier to neck up than down. The cases get thinner and the neck shortens, so no trimming is in order.

Necking down can require neck turning and trimming, but that can be a plus accuracy wise.
If I was going to a 6mm 22-250 (International?) I would blow out the case to get rid of the taper. 22-250 cases will run you less cabbage.

I think either way you would have a neat animal!

Oh yeah, I've ran some new loads and targets from Mag cases and 204 reformed from the 222 Magnum if your interested DD.

Yeah, I would be interested from a learning point of view on the .222 mag/.204 info. I'm learning reloading so anything is of interest to me.

From what I've learned so far the 6x.22-250 should be an easier case for a neophyte reloader to reload. As I study the 6x47 Lapua it looks like a case for experience reloaders doing serious competing rather than someone like me who just club shoots a couple of times a year.

BTW: For whatever it's worth to whom ever according to the reamer descriptions I've seen it looks like the 6 x 47 Lapua is about the size of a .22-250 case using .473 bolt face. The only advantage of the 6 x 47 Lapua over the 6 x .22-250 that I can see is that the 6 x 47 Lapua has a small primer pocket and flash hole which gives it better accuracy. For my needs the additional accuracy probably doesn't justify the extra work.

But heck, I posted to learn so if anyone has more ideas I'm all eyes.

There are technically two 6x47s; one on the .378" boltface that is the .222RemMag necked up (improved by necking up .204 Ruger brass); and one on the .473" boltface formed by necking the 6.5x47 Lapua down.

Damned confusing metrics......

I shot the 6x47 some early on..I have been shooting a 6x45 for the last 30 years now...It has a zero neck and shoots tiny groups, and its a 5 lb. rifle on a L-461 Sako action in a custom stock..My walk around varminter, but I have shot a ton of hogs, Javalinas, Mule and Whitetail deer, and African plainsgame with it and the 75 gr. BarnesX (no longer available). I now use the GS Customs 75 gr. monolithic..I like the 55 gr. Nosler Balistic tips for varmints with 25 ot 26 grs. of H322...

Its a great caliber, brass is easy to obtain as is cheap loaded ammo..
