I have a custom rifle built on a rem 700 action, and read from time to time about having a 3 position safety like one made by gentry installed. This is the first rifle I have owned with a Remington action and my question is if you do replace the factory 2 position with a Winchester style 3 position that goes onto the bolt, what happens when you remove to old one? Is there a gap left where the stock safety sticks up thru the stock? I would assume if you were having a new gun made a stock could be suplied that did not have the slot for the factory safety, but I'm sure some people have this done on of the rack rifles as well without replacing the stock. I'm not really opposed to the factory safety I'm still getting used to it I just kept having these questions when I read something about replacing the stock safety, and I have never seen one with the Winchester style on it.

Colored epoxy fills the slot quite well.

I just got rid of a 700 KS with the Gentry 3POS safety. If I would have kept it longer it would have gotten filled, then a repaint of the stock would have been in order - easy fix IMO. Some people balk at the Remington safety, I prefer it.

300fan,

If you decide to have the Gentry fitted I recommend you send them the rifle. I have read a collection of horror stories from other gunsmiths trying to use the Gentry. I expect it isn't as easy to fit as folks expect, and Gentry at least knows their own stuff.

I saw a walnut stock with a cleverly done repair too.
