I too k this fellow while Whitetail hunting in Texas last year. One shot did the trick, the 425 grain flat point hard cast at 1380 FPS entered the shoulder and took out a 3 to 4 inches section of lung tissue

The blood in the photo in from the entrance wound

It is truncated cone with a flat point of 78% of the bullets diameter. This bullet is a Jack Huntington design and is loaded in the Buffalo Bore factory Ammo.

The LBT moulds and designs from Veral Smith are top notch. [Linked Image]

That is a big truncated cone. The ones I got from Range Rick are a very small in the frontal area.

The wider the Meplat (with in reason) the better they perform and the larger the wound channel

Boy you can say that again. Best bullet design and the highest quality moulds you'll ever work with.

I think I understand all that, my thought was a truncated cone has a lot smaller Meplat. The design of the bullet you posted looks more like a standard Long Flat Nose bullet.

No bullet education needed here... grin

Jsut because a bullet is of a truncated cone is no reason to make the meplat small, yet that is what most makers seem to do when designing a truncated cone.

I was just going by what I have seen from most bullet makers.

I have some for my 500 Mag as well as my 460 Mag, they are great for longer range and still make a big hole in game.

The flat-nosed bullets I use in my .475 have a meplat that is 80% of the diameter, and they remain stable at every distance I have shot them (up to 200 yards). I guess the original WFN design as so designated by Veral called for a meplat that is 81% of the bullet's diameter.......what does this have to do with the price of tea in China? Beats me!

Veral's WFN designs are basically just as you describe them: they have as much frontal area as possible to kill quickly and to achieve that long range accuracy at top speeds.

I have about fifteen of his moulds for handguns; they are the best made bar none (his rifle moulds will really make a believer out of you).

jwp, nice score on another fine handgun project! I am envious!
