I just had the barrel replaced on my 7 mag and it is shooting both loads at sub MOA groups. Because I don't have any experience with either bullet, I am asking the forum which is best on mule deer and similar size game?

Either bullet will work well on mule deer size game. It is likely that your choice will be dictated by availability and cost, though ballistics may be a major factor.

I have no experience with the Swift.

With that said, I have some experience with Fusions, they are the only non-handload that has traveled down a barrel of any of my big game rifles in a looooong time.

I hate to admit it, but as far as 130 gr loads in my pet 270 they really leave me with little reason to handload for it, other than I enjoy it. Sub moa, actually closer to 1/2 moa all day long.

Either will work fine on deer sized game. If they are equally accurate I would go with Fusions as they can be had for about $10.00 less per box than the Swift loads.

No deer will know the difference which it was shot with.

I have had good luck with the original Sciroccos and the Scirocco IIs on elk--I am sure that they would do a good job on deer, too, even big ones. However, either bullet would certainly be fine for the use that you proposed...

Thanks for everyone's reply. It sounds like either is a suitable quality bullet. I will probably test for accuracy at some longer ranges until there is a winner. With these two factory loads I am thinking they are good enough to skip the hand loading which is fun only when I have time for it.

I shoot 180 grain Sciroccos in a .300 Wby Mag (@ ~3,250 fps). Six or seven years ago, I wanted to try these bullets and had a new Vanguard in .300 Wby for which I needed to work up an elk load. I have also tried the 150s in my 7mm Mag and they shoot well. However, I don't hunt much with that rifle any more, so I have never taken any game with them.

I you plan on shooting past 300 yards the scirocco will have a big advantage over the fusion-far less drop at extended range due to its very high BC. And the fusion does not have a boattail base. As .284 150 grain hunting bullets go the scirocco has the best BC of any of them and yes that includes the accubond,e-tip, SST ect.

Bob..glad that 7mm dakota is shooting well..just stick with Sciroccos II ..the original Scirocco will blow up upon impact at short ranges(under 100 yards)

Actually the Fusion bullets do have a boat tail, and the drop at 500 yards looks to be roughly identical to what the ballistic calculator comes up with for the .515 BC 150 gr. Scirocco II, about 36" drop at 500 yards with 3050 FPS MV. The Scirocco should still be at 2183 FPS at that range by the ballistic calculator, and the velocity chart at the Fusion site (fusionammo.com) shows right at 2180 at that range as well.

So, virtually no difference.

Thanks for the site, it does seem strange they didn't give the BC on the Fusion site.
Given they are both quality bullets, I will do my usual test, shoot them for 5 shot groups at longer ranges for final decisions.
I am just so happy my new Bartlein barrel likes both of these 150 bullets.

I have exactly zero experience with the Scirocco but have had excellent results with the Fusion factory loads in a .308.

At the range the Fusion load equaled or improved upon my best hand loads. Groups averaged just under an inch at 100 yards.

On game performance was outstanding on deer and antelope. In fact, I would not hesitate to use them on larger game like elk. I know that a local gun shop tells their customers the same thing.

I have never used fusions but have conducted an extensive bullet test of 130gr 270 bullets @ 3100 on about 150 head of game. Of bullets available today, the Scirrocos were clearly the most likely to drop game where they stood. My tests included animals with the reputation of being very tough to anchor.

My new barrel doesn't like Hornady's at all, so it is looking like I have found a couple of suitable replacements.

The Sciroccos being a solid copper bullet copper foul a barrel in a big hurry, at least that is what I found out in my 7 mag. They were accurate, and put large holes in deer, but I had to use 3 soakings of Sweets to get the copper out of a barrel after 12 rounds fired that normally does not foul much at all.

For deer sized game, the 154g Hornady Sp does a splendid job at any distance at any angle so I went back to it on elk, deer, and hogs loaded behind 73.0g of R#25 with a Win Mag primer at 3150-3200 fps out of my 26" 700's and A bolts in 7 Mag.

Hornady loads the 154g SP in their "Custom" line of ammunition, you should consider it, and the price will not break the bank either.
