I'm looking for some thoughts and/or guidance on the use of the QuickLOAD determination of Pmax (other than the obvious safety reasons).

Is it better to have Pmax further down the barrel, or closer to the chamber?? For instance, Varget has a faster Pmax than IMR 3031 for the 155gr Lapua. I've been assuming that the further down the barrel, the better (my long range match .308 barrel has no contour) and that the pressure curve ramp up to Pmax is better distributed further out from the chamber. This may be a concern for barrels with a tapered profile tho'.

This leads me into another discussion on pressures at muzzle, and if there are any concerns here - specifically, is it better to choose a powder with a lower muzzle pressure if the velocity is similar?

Thoughts or feedback? Thx.
