Has anyone sent their 95 GG back to Marlin to have the barrel changed from ported to non-ported?
I have seen some posts thst they will do it for free and others that they will do it for a small fee.
Has anyone actually done this ,and if so what did it cost if anything? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Don't know of anyone that has sent their G/G back for rebarreling, but I learned last week from my smith that Marlin is now producing G/Gs without ported barrels. Seems the Cowboy Action shooting crowd is denied the priveledge of using the G/Gs in the sport because of the ports. They say it's not "ol' timey". So, Marlin has responded by making them without the ports for that sport.
I haven't fired a G/G without a ported barrel, but me thinks that puppy might bite a bit with heavy loads!

I haven't done it because I bought my GG so I'd hav e the ports. I could have had a new GG w/o ports but it didn't look right to me. having said that there were several posters on MT before the fall that had sent theirs back. I believe Marlin did it for little or no charge. My question is this though, if the gun shoots well , do you want to risk getting a bad barrel? Most people didn't like how loud they ports are, I find them to be no worse than any other similar gun w/o ports.

My 1895M is non ported and the recoil isn't all that bad to me with factory ammo. My re-loads (Hornady 350 gr FP's with IMR4198) seem to recoil about the same. I have shot with guys that have the ported barrels and can't see the difference. Just my opinion, if you have a good shooter, I would leave it alone....

On the Marlin board,before it went down, they were saying Marlin would do it for $35.00. If you go to www.marlinfirearms.com and look up repairs, they have a number you can call to find out.
