I lucked into finding a used 336 in 30-30 some years ago that cloverleafs 3 shots at 75 yards with the Starfire X bullet. I killed an 8 point with this setup a couple of years ago. The range was 105 yards. The performance of the X bullet was impressive. I reccommend trying this bullet in your micro groove barrel. I have left a compact 3x9 scope on it; but, I am never over 4x while hunting and reccommend a small fixed power scope. It still keeps the balance of the carbine and compared to my BAR is light to carry in the field. Good luck.
