I know this sounds odd but is there an aftermarket pad available? Dad told me his Marlin was hard on him?????? Maybe he was thinking of another gun but I wanted to check about the pad all the same.

Seems like the Pachmayr Pre-fit Decelerator for the 444 Marlin should fit the 336.

If you want a sturdy yet comfy cushy pad, get the limsaver . You can get size templates off their website(www.limbsaver.com)and be sure to check all the part numbers carefully. My Guide gun required a much larger pad than what was stated as the 444 marlin pad. Like a good carpenter measure twice order once. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Pachmayr just came out with a pre-fit Decelerator for the Marlin 336, be aware that it fits current models only.

I ordered one for my 1981 M336 and it's way too big. After speaking with their tech service I found that the one they list for the 1895 should fit my older 336.

Measure your buttstock and call them to find out which one is closest.

I got him a Decellerator - paid too much for it but oh well. It more than did the job. Also bought him a weaver 4x and it is like a new rifle. Now his shoulder AND eyes are taken care of and the rifle is a lot easier or him to tote up into the stand than his longer bolt action.
