My father in law only has one, and only will have one. A M760 in '06.
I have owned a ton of different guns and cals, but a m7600 in .308/06 will always be in the cabinet.
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition and we'll stay free.

Semi, sorta. I have umpteen guns but it seems like the one I usually reach for is the .375 H&H. Season 2007 I tried using the .270 & couldn't hit anything with it. Grabbed "El Troubador" (my .375) and with the first shot I had an antelope down. Little muley buck @ 350+ yards was the same scenario. One shot & I had a horrendous drag to get him to the truck. If I only had one rifle El Troubador would be it hands down!

Now what fun would that be? I'm one who doesn't own a gun to hunt, I hunt to try different guns.

I'm much the same as Hawkeye...I shoot more than I hunt. So I enjoy having different rifles and calibers to choose from to take to the range.

absolutly. i shoot a 270win mkv for deer weather it be long shots or short shots (10-400yds) it kills em every time. although sometimes i'll take the old savage 340 30-30 for a walk. then comes elk season. some times the elk are out in the clearcuts and long shots can be expected so for me it's a remi 300win. most of the time however the elk are in the timber so i'll pick up the steyr carbine 9.3x62 it's great up close and out to about 250 yds. yep i'm a one rifle kind of guy, i just have different rifles for different applications.
let me give you boys a lil' tip. you might wanna turn off that engine 'fore you go and change that there fan belt!

I really WANT to be a "one rifle/one caliber" guy, but I can't seem to make it happen. I am pretty down to one rifle (actually two Blaser R-93 Professional receivers), but I have a few barrels for it. I have barrels in 22 lr, 6.5x55, 308, and a 9.3x62.
I have dedicated one receiver to my 22 lr barrel, and I am currently using the 6.5x55 barrel on the other.

My dad was a one gun/caliber hunter. .300 savage bought in 1949 and used till he passed it to me a year ago. He was the same way with a shot gun too. A Winchester sl 1911. He still has that, bought it from his brother in law in the 1940's.

Have to admit that I am - I use my 270 for everything (elk, muleys, and antelope (in that order)) - actually I also use it in place of a 22 with reduced loads for small game as well. Guess I always have been - had a 303 British and a 30-06 that got the same use. Jut kind of like the idea of getting real used to one rifle...

My hunting battery (I have other rifles I enjoy shooting also) for some time now has been one of two things, my old (first rifle) 336T 30-30 for ghosting about in the trees and a 7mm Rem Mag for everything else. I picked up a really nice stainless .340 Fibermark, ostensibly for bigger critters and that "it's gonna happen one day" trip to Africa and/or Alaska but mostly because I wanted one and got an awfully good deal on it. I must admit that I'm REALLY getting the wild-eye about a Tikka T3 Lite in .308. It'd carry like the 30-30 but there's precious little it couldn't do with the right load.
If there's one thing I've become certain of it's that there's too much certainty in the world.

Now what fun would that be? I'm one who doesn't own a gun to hunt, I hunt to try different guns. Well said Ole! I do not own any rifles I have not hunted with. I was a little under gunned with the 9mm Largo, but determined within 35 yds it would do the job. One shot one kill. Toughest rabbit I ever hunted Randy

Funny but I used to be as far as big game hunting went at least.
Started out in the early 1970s with a Remington 700 in .280 Remington. Went from there to a SSG in .308 then to a Ruger #1 in .375 H&H.
After a few seasons with the .375 it was traded off for a Remington 700 Classic in .350 Remington Magnum about 1991. That stayed till about 2001 maybe when it was replaced with a M600 in .350...
Although most of my hunting has been done with that M600 it seems that other big game guns have been coming into the house without anything else leaving... Usually I only had ONE big game rifle...now...I look in the safe and try to decide which of about 10 guns to take...
So for me at least it is getting worse not better...

No,
but the older I get the fewer I use, I've been using my 9.3x62 and the more I use it, the less I need other rifles.
Mine is a Blaser R93 with the tracking barrel at 19 3/4 in and a Zeiss 1x6 Z6. I can't think of anything I would not shoot with it!

I try to only shoot one caliber in each rifle.
And only one rifle at a time, mind you
Ditto. I don't think I could do it. If nothing else go to the range to punch holes in paper...some big ones and some small ones............gl

For years, my only big centerfire was the M-700 ADL I bought in 1967. Still have it.
In the 1970s, I went through some .308s: M1-A, Garand, FN FAL, HK-91, M-24 that I built on a McMillan stock. Still have the HK-91.
But there is just too much fun owning and using a variety of rifles. I think I need another .30-06...
