I just bought a new Leupold VXII 3x9-40 for a 500 S&W Encore rifle. I have had people tell me that the 500 is going to shake this scope apart if I mount it on this gun. Anyone know if it will hold up to the recoil?? I can probaly swap it for something different since it hasnt been mounted.

thanks for any help

I think it will handle it. I had one on a .378 weatherby mag and it held up. A VX-2 is tested to the same recoil standard as a VX-3

I'd say it is indeed.....

Only thing is having to deal with the "unresolved blobs" when looking through it.... wink wink smile

If you go to the trouble of first focusing the reticle and then focus the image, you won't have any "unresolved blobs."
The basic Leupold test standard for all of their scopes is 750 g's, which is equivalent to a .375's recoil, for 5000 times. Even the cheap Rifleman scopes have to meet this standard.
Their pistol scopes and their Mk.4 scopes are tested at 1500 g's and 5000 times. E

I think it will hold up. If it don't, Leupold will fix it free. Fixed powers are still tougher, and I'd maybe go with a 4x, ideally, on that rig........

Skane: Your original "reply" did NOT mention that your "reply" was only intended to sound stupid - and not really BE stupid - well, it was stupid!
You should be aware that when you say stupid things then people think you are... well YOU know!
You wanna denigrate Leupold scopes you should maybe rethink that stu... well YOU know, position!
And you better bring along YOUR lunch as YOU are gonna have a tough time with that chore!
And then, be fully prepared to have your "lunch" FED to you!
Long live Leupold!

Dude-

Uhhhh, reckon 30+ gold rings makes me in serious LIKE with Leupold.
You'll also note the wink in the reply. Now, I can type slower for you if you like, but, that should have been pretty obvious.

Go fight with the haters......Jimminy....

The more interesting question is how well will you handle the recoil.

Oregon-

You're prolly right. It's possible to have fun in the rest of the forums at the fire, just not here, and, I should know better than that, after all, this stuff certainly is life and death. smile

Jeff Quinn put a 2x7 VX2 on his test rifle a .375 Ruger African. See "gunblast.com"..."archives" and scroll down to 2/6/07.

I don`t see a problem.

I thought your comment about the floating blobs was kind of funny myself! I usually see those in my Leupold while firing guns with heavy recoil, of course, that's my brain bouncing inside my skull grin I wonder if there are focusing instructions for that... crazy

I'm sure you can, no offense meant, I should've put a smiley in my earlier post. The only way I could see a Leupold being destroyed by Handi-Rifle recoil is if the gun flies out of the shooters hand during recoil. I saw this happen with a 500 S&W revolver and the 4x Leupold did not survive contact with the concrete.

OK. Understood. A little humor around here is probably long overdue. Thanks for the effort. E

Elk Hunter,

do not worry, scope should be fine. I find your "signature" movie worth more dicussion. There is a guy in the park, practicing his moves, you know, a little exercise. Getting some air under his wings. We all know the importance of foot work. While practicing his, he twists his ankle - hence the grimasse.

And then this other dude - produces OUT of NOWHERE and shoots from a totally mondane straight stance - unprovoked, unrefined, no class at all, execpt for serious CC - skills.

I pout about 400 rounds form a 375 Ack then a 416 Rem (50-60 ft lbs of recoil) through a VARI X II, and that scope still works well today.
