Has anyone tried RL-17 in the 338 federal yet? Can it be used together?

If the 4350's are a viable powder then RE17 should be also. I am about to push the '06 with 150 tsx's soon based on some cross referencing with quick load......just gotta get decent weather.

I tried it in a 358 win with a 20" barrel and 225 gr bullets. Max loading density had the bullets going 100 fps slower than the pet load with RL-15. 2450 instead of 2550.

The 338 might have slightly better results due to its smaller bore diameter. Perhaps if the barrel is longer it might help too.

Try it and let us know.

Received an email from Alliant (Rl-17). Basically they stated that the case capacity is not large enough to benefit from this powder.

So it looks like TAC may be the go to powder. Any others have opinions on powders to try???

Based on the bore size and case capacity I'd look very hard at H322, Benchmark and RL10x for my first trials.

Having such good results with H4895 I've not strayed too far from it.

Haha!!! Now there's two of you laugh

I've had good luck so far with H4895, Benchmark, and so far my favorite is RL15. I'm going to try some good old 748 sometime soon as well.
