What have you used for coyotes in the 6.5x55 or 260 Rem that is reasonably fur friendly. Would the 85 gr Sierra or 90 gr Speer TNT be a good choice or would the Barnes 110 gr solid be better? Should I just stay with the typical 129-140 gr big game bullet?

Were I in that mode, I would shoot these in my .260, on the possibly questionable assumption that they would be fur-friendly. What I do know is that they group like crazy and carry very well...

I would vote for the lightest Vmax you could get, pushed as fast as you could push it and hope not to hit big bones. Recent to the 6.5 family, so I am interested in the replies.

I know what will work, just don't know what will be fur friendly.
I would be tempted to ease off the throttle and shoot 85 grain sierra and 90 grain speer.

I've been thinking on this too. I have no experience with the 6.5 and coyotes but believe I will try the 142 grain Sierra, since I want to give it a go at long range anyway. I'm doubting the fmj/hp will open up on a song dog, even if bone is encountered, though the bone may become a projectile, too. I'm more of the belief that any hunting or varmint bullet has the very real chance of blowing big holes in the off side depending on the circumstances. A fully clad case or hp, not so much, and there are lots of options for target bullets with the 6.5.

If you really want Fur friendly try the 160's pulled from 6.5x55 Swede surplus ball ammo...

If you want to make a coyote drop like it was electrocuted try the 95 VMAX over a big dose of Varget or H4350 at around 3200 FPS.

Long range dogs, the 140 SMK over 45 grains of RL19 works good and is pretty fur friendly. 140 Speer Hot-Cors work pretty well too...

And believe it or not, another good one is 100 grain Partitions at 3200 FPS over H4350. On broadside dogs, exits aren't bad at all. Now if you hit the Southbound end of a Northbound Coyote, its going to be ugly. I got in the habbit of using my leftover Antelope ammo on songdogs quite a few years ago...

I could see the 100 gr Nosler being pretty good along with the heavier big game bullets. I just wonder if the varmint style bullets would be too destructive, keep the ideas coming please.

All I know is that 7mm STW with 140 gn Barnes bullets ricocheted on the far side of one coyote my buddy shot. The damage was less than a lot of 22-250 holes I've seen.

I've busted 8 or 10 coyotes with my .264WM launching 130gr ABs at 3275fps. All had a pencil sized innie and a quarter sized outie. Hard on coyotes, easy on hides.

My 264 likes the 130 gr Swifts so thats what I will use then in that gun. It looks like the big game bullets may be the best choice in the smaller 6.5's as well.

Any experience w/ the 100 gr Nos BTs, Dan?

Never used them... I've always been content with Partitions. Back when the BTs came out I had not so good experiences with them. I hear they're tougher these days, but I'm not about to give up flinging Partitions at critters
