I've had very good luck with IMR 4064 or H4895, both around 55.0 gr. Some guys swear by RL 15, but I've had no luck there. My 55 gr. H4895 load puts the Hornady 250 RN out at 2450 and shoots three into .75" or better at 100 yds out of my rebored pre-64 model 70. I use the 4064 with the 250 gr. Speer or a 250 gr. partition for 2400 fps and around 1" groups. Hope this helps.

I am leaning toward H4895 for no other eason that I have several other rifles that use this powder!

I ran into some real pressure issues using RL 15 under this bullet that I had not experienced with Spire Points.
My personal preference is 4064. 4320 performs well but is often overlooked.
Nothing wrong with 4895. One of the better Whelen reviews that I've seen indicated it to be a great choice.

The best 250Gr bullet load for a 35 Whelen is a 225 Gr bullet with 57.8 Gr of Vith N140 2700fps. See Sierra Edition V.

IMR4064 gives me 2575fps and great accuracy from 24". I believe an old Am Rif article by Chas Petty convinced me to give it a try. Glad I did, was the last load I ever tested. Oh, 250 Speer and NosParts shoot exactly same to 300 yds.

I have mostly used IMR 4064 and 250 grain bullets. Killed my best bull elk with a Hormady 250 RN.
Win 748 is good with light 200 gr. bullets and with magnum primers.

Mine like pretty much anything I put in them. Especially Re 15 and any 250 grain bullet. The 250 grain Hornady spire point is very accurate and kills elk quite well.

Barnes 225gr TSX over 58gr Varget at 2600fps, light it up with Rem 9 1/2 primers.

I use the 250 Hornady RN in my Whelen for elk. It loves Varget @ 2500 fps. I have tried 4064 and RL 15 but the Varget out shot both.
