Just went out an burned up a box of Federal standard LRs and a box of Stingers in the 1928 Model 60A. Man, I wish they made 'em like this now...

25 yards (sighting in): Everything touched, and I walked 'em in to the 1/2" bull (homemade taget).

50 yards (verifying and re-calibrating): All but one called pull within 1/4" of each other, walked into and verified the bull.

75 yards (just for the fun of it): Kept everything under the palm of my hand, and that's at least 20 rounds.

Folks, this is with the factory installed Redfield peep, and the factory coarse (hooded) post, and sub-target grade ammo. Not to mention the fact that I wasn't going for sheer accuracy here, but moved the single-shot bolt gun from the homemade sandbags at 75 everytime (at 25 and 50 I was prone, with no bags).

If ANY company made 22LRs like this today, I dare say that none of us would need a scope for bushytails, until our eyes betrayed us on the peep sights. I know I wouldn't want to be a tree-rat inside of 50 this fall, and I can't wait until September. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

BTW, how's the early spring season going in the deep South? Almost time to start loading a few shotshells in the 22s when we head out, just in case...

VAnimrod,
sounds like a great little rifle. You are right they do not make them like that any more.
We don't have a spring season because it is open year round.
I took my 4 year old out weekend before last and she had a blast. We didn't kill any thing. This was her frist trip hunt with me but she love it. The weather was great and she really liked cook hot dogs on an open fire.

I am heading out this weekend to try it by myself with any luck I should get a few they are all over the place that I am hunting. Last week I put a couple of tang sights on the taraus model 62 and 72 that I have so friday afternoon I will have to sight them in before the hunt on saturday.

Sako
