I have a Skeet Grade Model 42 Winchester with a Cutts. How do I determine what choke the Cutts is? Also, are other chokes and parts available used or new. When did Lyman discontinue the Cutts Compensator? The 42 is a 1950 gun. Thanks in advance, Gregory

I thought the Cutts had interchangable tubes of different choke constictions. It should be marked somewhere on the tube.

I don't know the dimensions of the different chokes for a .410, but someone on here should be able to come up with an answere. Then, all you would have to do was measure the muzzle to get the constriction of the tube.

Or, you could pattern it. .410s are patterned at 25 yards instead of 40 yards like larger bore guns.

Yep, I had one in skeet grade, but with no factory installed Cutts.
IIRC, the very short choke tube for the 410 Cutts is the skeet choke, and the very long one is Full Choke. Mod in the middle.

It is marked on the screw-in tube. I'm currently trying to erase from my mind the picture of a sweet little 42 with a big Friggin knob out on the end of the barrell.

Amen!
40+ years ago, there were a lot of guys on the skeet circuit shooting Model 42's with knobs on the end of the barrels.....
Mine did NOT have the knob on the end. grin

I once spent a holiday cleaning a private collection (18 hours) of model 42's. Over a hundred in the guys collection. Man did I screw myself on what I charged him.

Every skeet gun in this collection had a Cutts on it. All 42 are taken down. I'm sure you could find a skeet gun without a Cutts, I've just never seen one.

Did you know there is a good book out on the 42? If you are interested P.M. me for a link to the book.
