What kind of information are you looking for? The 1964 Winchester catalog had a picture of the then "New" .22s. Remember, this was the first year for the "New" everything Winchester. The .22 rifles were "2" series. 250 for lever, 270 for pump and 290 for the semi-auto rifles. Both the lever and the pumps were offered in 22 magnum. The lever was the model 255 and the pump was the model 275. I am not sure when Winchester first offered the magnum versions. I had a lever model 255 in 22 magnum. I currently have the 250, 270 and 290 .22s in "as new" condition. Sadly however, these new models were not the Winchester .22s many of us loved and still own. Check out the prices on the model 61 Winchesters in .22 and 22 magnum today. I know a fellow who paid $1900.00 for a 97-98% 61 22 magnum last fall and he was delighted to get it. Shoot your 255 as much as you can and have fun with it. It's a good gun, but not a great gun.

Thanks, thats a lot more than I have been able to get. I didnt get it as a collector item, but as a shooter. I was a little dismayed at the dearth of information on this particular rifle, since you can get just about anything on most Winnies on the net. As for the model 61, I've had one for years. Its a typical Winnie-- well made, but im not awfully impressed with it. I do plan to shoot the 255 and have fun with it, certainly it didnt ding the old pocketbook too badly. Appreciate the help pal....

The triggers are pretty mushy, but if you put a set of B-Square Weaver adapters and a reasonable quality 1" scope on it, it should shoot pretty good groups. I don't like the geometry of the stock very much, but as with many thing, YMMV. My FIL used to keep a Winchester 275 pump gun around the farm and he was pretty successful at putting lead on target.

The Winchester M-255 came in two models, the standard M-255(1964-1970), and the M-255 Deluxe w/issue swivels & better wood (1965-1973. Except for caliber, it was the same as the .22LR M-250 introduced in 1963.

It ain't no fun, when the rabbit's got the gun
