Since discovering I can't catch a trout, I went down to the pond on the golf course Sunday and caught a bunch of bluegills. Two women jogged up behind me and stopped. I had just caught the smallest fish of the day (all of 3" long). They say Hello, and What am I fishing for? I display the bluegill in my palm. One asks "do they get any bigger?" I said "if you rub it it does." They laughed, I casted and caught a 10" golden shiner. She asked if I ever fished for tarpon. I said I enjoyed catching Bluegills better. She talked of tarpon, bone fishing in Cuba, New Zealand fishing, and Patagonia. I had to ask if she was married. She was from Scotland, which explained the white complexion, overbite, and big ears, and yeah she was married. I could have lived with the rest but hitched is hitched. She said cheerio and "tight lines" and they both jogged off. I thought about that for days. I'm thinking the woman of my dreams does exist. There's hope after all.

YOU are the man! That's the perfect opportunity being met with the perfect attitude to pull off the one-liner of the year. My hat's off to you Rob!

Now, if you're in the mood to do some traveling, here's a website that may prove productive for locating a hottie with a fly rod.

If I were single, I'd have already booked several trips with guide April Vokey.

Rob,

While on a solo backpack trip to flyfish some lake in Glacier NP a few decades ago, I noticed a gal fishing alone. Wondered where the boyfriend or husband was, but he never appeared. Thought I had located the elusive mermaid.

Another hike through Glacier and a trip to BC with her had turned that dream of a mermaid into a nightmare.

I take it that means you married her.

This beautiful young lady repaired my camera after my stupid attempt to fix it myself. Anyway, thought she was way out of my league, so I took my repaired camera and left. A few days later a co-worker of hers called me to ask how the camera was doing, said fine and that led to her mentioning her co-worker being new to the city and single, which led to her asking if I was single. This turned into a date, later I learned this beautiful girl was from Idaho, went to college in Denver and located to my town. Being an outdoorsman, I asked if she'd like to go fishing sometime. We'll being from Idaho, she grew up hunting and fishing and was excited at the chance to do some trout fishing in SE Oklahoma. A few weeks went by and we ended up in the Lower Illinois River fishing for trout. After she had watched me catch a few on the flyrod and released them, she siad she was planning on a trout dinner for us, but I told her I never kept trout and didnt know how to clean them. She walked over and took the next trout I caught, whipped out her pocket knife and gutted it and gave it back to me.

I knew then I was going to get hitched to that girl. Twenty four years later, two daughters, four dogs, one cat and we're still trout fishing, hiking, camping, dual sport motorcycle riding. She even followed me to Colorado, so she must like me.

Nothing like the girl of your dreams becoming your wife, best friend, fishing-hiking-motorcycle buddy, mother of your children and it sure makes those cold weather camping trips much more fun. Great picture of your family.

I wonder if the emotion of petty jealousy comes through via posts on the internet.

Some of us end up fishing alone as the spouse does NOTHING outdoorsy

at all

EVER

So I am glad some of you have someone to share the experiences
though I'm jealous

I was guiding fly fishing trips in WYO when I met my wife. She and a friend of hers showed up as clients at the shop, we spent the day floating and fishing the good part of the Green R. (way above Flaming Gorge). The next couple of days were spent fishing "off the books". A couple days after she left, I got a call from her saying she was packing her bags in CHarlotte, NC and moving out to WYO. We got married 2.5yrs later and spent our honeymoon in NZ fishing. I think she is going to be a keeper.

In January I bought a dual sport motorcycle that would give me a street legal bike I could ride on backroads and trails. One day my wife and I were trouting fishing on the South Platte river and she said she would like a dual sport bike also. So now we have added motorcycle riding to our list of things to do together. Wish I could get her to hunt, but thats ok, she enjoys me bringing home game and does not tell me not to go.

Having a spouse that hunts and fishes demands that one double the number of guns, flyrods, and freezers in his home. Now if she would only learn how to tie a fly life would be at its absolute finest.

Doubling the stable of rods, reels, etc. is a good thing. Especially when your wife brings her own equipment to the table...She has a nice 5wt that I poach all the time.....
