i have a nice antelope buck on the wall already from when i lived in montana.
every now and then i use a feather duster on it, and it seems some hair always falls off, i never touch my mounts with a bare hand, but this got me to wondering if an antelope hide tanned, would lose a few hairs every now and then as well, and not be worth getting tanned.

i would like to get one tanned for my "man cave" 5th wheel as a decoration.

I've tanned a bunch of them at home. the leather is very thin and easy to tan/oil/break.

the hairs on tanned hides both fall out and break off (very brittle shafts).

assuming you get it off the animal and into salt to "set" the hair within 2 hours (really) you'll get a good result.
I've left them in salt for a year before I got around to re-wetting and tanning them.

they're not bullet-proof like a moose or bison hide but I really like them.

how they're not all running around the sage like naked, hairless Chihuahuas is beyond me!

It's extremely difficult to retain hair on pronghorn hides. You're taking on a definite challenge. The hair slips easily, and is so brittle it will be constantly dropping hair. Good luck and let us know how it works out.

I'd not bother with it myself. Winter deer and elk hides are also a pain. A summer hide though is slick, shiny, and tough.

splattermatic,
I have a tanned antelope hide from the 15" buck I shot about 15 years ago. I have handled it very carefully, but regardless, some hairs break off or pull out. In spite of that, I still have 99% of the hair that it started with.
