I own a model 71 Winchester that I would like to use this fall moose hunting. I bought two boxes of Buffalo Bore 250 grain cartridges. They are loaded with J.F.N. Bonded bullets. I am concerned that if I hit the moose high, the bullet will not penetrate the thick shoulder bone. What is a J.F.N. Bonded bullet and will it be sufficient?

God, grant me the senility to forget the guns I never liked, the good fortune to run into the ones I do, and the eyesight to know the difference.

If i'm not mistaken a JFN Bonded is a Jacketed Flat Nose with core bonded to jacket. Even if i did'nt ever used one of BB bullet i'm sure this 250grs JFN will pass through both shoulders of your moose most of time.
I use 250grs Hawk with great satisfaction on big wild boars. They kill very well....

I believe that the bullet used in the Buffalo Bore 348 Win ammo is the Kodiak Super Premium Bonded Core from Alaskan Bullet Works. I can't imagine why that load would not be appropriate for moose.

They are indeed Kodiak bonded bullets. I whacked a 330# blackie last spring with that same BB load, took him square in the chest, recovered the bullet in his sack (no kidding), picture perfect mushroom.

That'd be the least of my concerns.

In my very limited experience (2 boxes) of this load the crimp was not sufficient and the bullet pushed into the case (in the mag tube) under its recoil. You may wnt to put a couple in the tube and see how they do.

What you have done is not nearly as important as how you have done it!!!

I would bet money that they would penetrate just fine. But then, I am pretty sure my 250gr Barnes Originals would as well.
