Just curious......I've recently picked up a pre-mil Savage 99F in .243 caliber. I therefore will be selling my post-mil 99F (also in .243). It is in 95% condition and a really nice rifle, particularly for a left-hander who prefers the shotgun style safety.

What has me a bit confused is that I have had two offers in the $600 range for it. This is a "post-mil" rifle!!! It's been quite a while since I sold any 99's (I keep buying, but the wife has sort of began making unhappy noises).

Is this price in line? I know the .243 caliber is desirable and 99 prices have been going up......but that's less than I paid for the pre-mil (also in 95%+ condition). Did I make a great buy on the older rifle......or need to jump on these offers.

I intended to post pictures and give those here the first shot at this rifle, but these offers seem too good to pass up.

You could likely hold out for more $...without being accused of holding out for all it's worth. 243's are rare. Condition generally dictates price.

Thanks Jed.....your opinion is one I've come to trust here.

I tend to be more of a shooter rather than collector, so I don't always stay up on current trends. I don't try to get rich when I sell a rifle, but it woud be kind of nice to point out to the little woman that I actually MADE money by buying a new gun.....damn I like the sound of that!

That also means I made a VERY good buy on the pre-mil .243. If I don't sell the rifle locally (one of the offers was from a man with an 8-year-old daughter who needs a first deer rifle).....I will definitely post it here and try to pass on the good to those who appreciate the Savage 99.

If it's a true 95%'er w/no warts...I'd look to get a grand out of it. It wouldn't last long.

needless to say you got a bargain on yours... two sold recently...one looked like it was taken out of the box and sold for a hair over $1200... other one sold for closer to 900 and was 95% or better...

I can not help you much on the post mil price but would think you could get $750-800 real easy even in today's market.
