What's the general opinion on the new American Classic models? I suppose that posting on this forum is like preaching to the choir, but I also figure that the guys here own a ton of these rifles.

So what's the good, the bad and the ugly?

Good? They shoot good and they come in 250 Savage.

Bad? It's not a 99.

Ugly? It's not a 99.

FWIW, I own one in 300WSM because a friend I was hunting antelope with in Wyoming two years ago absolutely dropped his goat at 416 yds with one. I'm totally happy with mine.

I like my 250 Model 14 which shoots sub 1/2 MOA so much... I'm planning to buy another 250 in a Model 16 Weather Warrior with the new Accu-stock to match.

In fact, RORY, I'll probably sell another Model "99" to do it!!! shocked

BLASPHEMY!!!!

Ain't those model 16's all stainless steel? You can't sell off a 99 for a modern ss bolt action, that just ain't right! frown

You gotta see the Accu-stocks in action! Solid bedding, not to mention 1-10 rifling.

I need another rainy day rifle as I just sold my last one, a D/T RT. wink I can only hunt so many 99 anyways. smile

Saw a good article on the 14 not sure now if it was Handloader or American Rifleman, but anywho they had real good things to say about it. I think I may get one in 300. Like to handle one first to get a feel. They say it weighs in a 7lbs w/o scope.

Hey Rory,
I think that one has my name on it, as I don't have a rainy day rifle yet laugh. That is kind of a cool look. Jim

Bert

That model 16, is it a short action like the 14 and does it come in 250 sav as a standard calibre, also can you tell us what the price of it is.

The model 14 has still not made it down under and there is a lot of interest in the rifle, now Bert has thrown up the weather warrior its got a few mates jumping up and down I can tell you.

Yes, you can go to www.savagearms.com and take a look at it. It comes in a short action and also in 250 Savage and 300 Savage as standard chamberings.

Lauren,

the Model 14 has no barrel nut, one of my pet peeves of other Savage bolt guns.

Johno, I've not has a Model 16 in my hands. Hopefully, the refinements of the M14 will carryover to the M16s. And the price for the M16 remains close to the price of the M14s but has the added feature of the Accu-stock. smile Think out of the box accuracy!

olgrouser, I think the 14 has a nut, it is smooth, IIRC.

Both the M14's and M16's all have barrel nuts, but as like2shoot noted, they're smooth rather than lugged so they blend in really well.

I stand corrected, it has no "visible" barrel nut per se, as many previous bolt models. smile
