Have to admit I am not a real muzzle loader lover, but got this pro hunter...seem to be getting about 3" groups with several different sabots as well 285 and 300 gr. power belts. We have used pydodex pellets, triple 7 loose, and black powder. 3" is it @ 100yds. Nice leupie 6X mounted. Ok for plugging a deer, but.....?

Lefty, are you scrubbing the bore clean between shots? Try leaving the bore partially fouled when you shoot the PBs, use one moist (not wet) patch between shots. My encore shoots best that way.

I have been firing 6-8 shots and then patching it out to get rid of the carbon ring. Will try a moist patch between shots.

Thanks,

I took mine to the range yesterday ...Using 3 different sabots and 250 grain Shockwaves it shot all 3 sabots in almost the same hole and a few did go in the hole. I had five go into less then 1" . I used Harvester black SB, the new red ribbed sabot and MMP 3 petal sabots. 110 grains of BH209 and a Federal 209a Primer. It shoots like a rail gun.

Tried the damp patch thing and it actually got worse...4-5" groups....going to try some different sabots. Incidently shot friends Knight evolution with the same loads and it clustered most everything in about 1 1/2'. Sure is a ugly gun though! We both have Leupie 6x42"s.

Leftycarbon,

Get you some BH-209 and CCI or Fed-209 primers and forget about the swabbing thing. Start at 100 grs and shoot 2 shots. If the 2 shots don't impact with-in 1 1/2 inch of each other don't shoot the third shot. Increase your load by 5 grains and shoot the 105 gr load.

If the bullets are close enogh for you shoot the third shot for group. If this group does not suit you shoot 110 grains.

80% of the time with-in 100-110 grains the rifle will group otherwise there are other issues.

Doc,

Will try to find some of the BH 209. Shot it again tonight with the 777 powder and the win primers and 209's. Still about 3"+. Shot 105 and 110 gr. One thing I do notice is that any sabot is extremely tight in this barrel. Even squeaky clean I have to smack the short starter really hard to get them started and lean on the rod to get them seated. With the same sabots they slide right into the Knight.

Lefty C,

Try licking the outside of the sabot before you seat it into the "QLA". That should help some.

I got that trick form "Underclock" who has been licking sabots since their introduction. shocked

Have you tried the T/C yellow sabots?

Doc,

We shot it again this am: 110 gr 777, Win 209, yellow sabot and shock wave's. Did the licking thing and it helped a lot as did a very small amt of bore butter. Dead calm this am and it was 2"- 1 three shot group (the last one)was just under 2". Hunting starts the W/E so my son GTG. After hunting season will work with a bit more.

Thanks,

LC

I shoot a Pro Hunter 50 cal. I use bore butter to swab/clean
between shots...I use 209 shotgun primers...200 grn Shockwaves..3-50 grn pyrodex pellets...Gun shoots 1"-1.5" groups100 yds. It is sighted-in 2.5" high @100 yds. That gives a 2"-2.5" group at 200, 3" low.....That has accounted for numerous critters. The gun is 5 years old and was cleaned in July for the first time with a wire brush....It shot to normal point if impact last weekend with its normal load(after 2 fouling shots)....YMMV

A lot more sabot choices now... I've mostly stopped with the licking. smile

leftycarbon, giving that bore about 100 strokes of JB Bore paste on a patch (over a cleaning brush) might make loading a heap easier.

I have reserved the "licking" for more intresting things wink

Once the two week early season is over I will work with this rifle a lot more. Was thinking about JB myself.

LEFTY, First thing is to get rid of those win. 777 primers. Try Rem 209 primers. I shoot a Pro Hunter with 150gr 777 pellets a Rem. 209 primer and TC 250gr shockwave bullets. Clean after every shot. Last trip to the range it shot a 2 1/2" group at 200yds. Have killed 3 mule deer and an antelope with it. Furthest shot was 255yds, pass thru.
