Out of the 2 which stock is thinner: McMillan Classic or Sporter? What would you recommend for a PacNor #2?

I hear that the Sporter is a love it or hate it kind of thing, due to the grip angle. The Classic seems to be preferred by the masses. A PN#2 will work great in a Classic and can actually fit in a Mtn Rifle handle. The Sako Classic is another good option for that kind of contour. I've not had a Sporter, but have owned the other three patterns.

Classic's thinner and more "carryable".

I've got a couple Sporters and like them for their intended purpose, but prefer the Classics for an all arounder.

I've thought about going with the MR as well, but I generally like a tad more meat in the stock. The Classic it will be. Thanks for the input. Now it's time to choose some colors.grin

I don't have a classic in the house, but this pic is showing the Ti, Mountain Rifle, and Sporter forends. In the pic both barrels are Mountain Rifle contoured so you can get an idea of the thickness. In the second pic, that is a Rem Sporter contour shown from above in the McMillan Sporter handle, you can see that the stock has a lot of "meat" left in it. I'm one of the "Sporter" naysayers. I just don't like the fit/feel. The Mountain Rifle stock, on the other hand, is perfect for me.

Thanks KDF. By the way, what contours are the barrels?

A compact will fit a number 2 as well. I have a compact and a pacnor #2 on my 25-06 AI.

Classic is never a bad choice though.

The Ti and Classic have factory Remington magnum contours. The Edge has a Broughton #4 in it, which is probably a little much for that stock. Here's what I was left with on the top side:

I think you would like the MR/Edge stocks with your #2.

Here's a MR handle with a PN#2 tube. It is the blue stock. The black is a factory Vanguard mag sporter in a Sako Classic pattern. Pac-nor's #2 is heavier than the Shilen #2 I had, and is likely as big as I'd go in the MR handle. The Sako Classic is also slim through the forearm, but allows a bit more room for the stouter contours.

Looking at that pic more closely makes me think that I might want to do a bit more sanding on that Vanguard, as the float seems pretty skimpy...

So to clarify since I just ordered my 1st Mickey - is the Classic narrower than the Sporter in the fore-end?? For a SA with a Shilen #3 Contour any thought on which would be a better fit??
