I have a M7 in 350. Load it down w/150s for deer, and use 220s on elk. Great all 'round rifle.

I like the .350 Remington Magnum.
Here is my latest rifle from Grizzly Custom Guns:

Winchester M 70, tuned & Blueprinted, 20" cut rifled pedestal barrel with integral Talley bases, High Tech Specialties stock, Leupold Scout Scope with Talley low rings, NECG banded ramp front sight, modified AR rear sight (smaller knob), Williams Firearms bottom metal, 2 3/4# trigger, 12 3/4" LOP, 8 pounds 2oz with sling, Langlois Ching Sling w/ Pachmayr swivels, magazine feeds ammo 2.925" OAL (most short actions are limited to 2.82" OAL) 2.925" is the OAL with a 250gr Swift A Frame crimped in the cannelure.
Absolutely Flawless fit and finish!

I'd go 338,due to boolit selection and the ballistic advantage(s).....................

I have both the 350 and 358 and like them both. I'd say the 358 gets hunted a bit more and it's likely because of the package - it resides in a Brown Pounder with 22" tube, so it's likely in your 7.5 all-up weight range. I don't know what else is in your stable but like has been mentioned previously, you can load the 350 down to 358 but not vice versa - though not sure why you'd want to load it down. I'd not rule out picking up a M7 KS in 350 for a rig very much like you're describing.

Like Dober mentioned, your blueprint could pretty much start and end with MtnHntr's 350. Of course, you could build a Whelen too.

No question 350 Rem Mag. I have owned both and the 350 gets 150 fps+ more in the same barrel length. This makes a difference on bullet expansion.

My present 350 is in a 660. I owned a 600 too but I liked the 660 better. Really great cartridge. Very efficient.

I have hunted with both. I used to hunt with an older steel receiver BLR in 358 Win. Now, I use a Ruger 77 in 350 Rem Mag. This may sound strange (given what I had and what I now use) but given the parameters that you've stated, I think a 358 Win. would be ideal. It accomplishes virtually the same thing as the 350 Mag but with less powder and muzzle blast within the short to medium range category. I also found the Winchester 200 gr Silvertip load for the 358 Win. to be much more accurate in the BLR than the Remington 350 Mag 200 gr load in my Ruger. Of course, if you don't reload you'll never realize the best that either cartridge offers, not to mention that either one in factory ammo is relatively hard to find and costly.

I sold my BLR because someone offered me considerably more $ than it cost me. So, when the 35 caliber bug bit me again years later, I opted for the Ruger 350 Mag, since it was easy for me to obtain at Wally World of all places. Though I really like my 350 Mag, I have to admit that everything I've taken with the 350, I could have just as easily gotten with the 358 Win. I must also state that I hunt only deer and hogs.
Not to confuse things but the bottom line is what some of the others have stated about either caliber being ok for what you want. So, it's nice to know that you cannot make a bad decision. Good luck.

In a Ruger (or Winchester), I'd opt for the 350. The 358 is a perfect partner for the Remington tube bolt. (The 358 has been plenty adequate at farther than "they" say it should be. I've got a Norma if I need more.)

I tried to get one of those Clifton bipod stocks but he closed down. Damn! That's cool! I still have his catalog.

And I vote 350 mag!

You've piqued my curiousity, since I've never noticed either a 150 or 220-gn bullet in .35 caliber... What are you using??

Anyway, can't speak to the .350 but my 20" M7 .358 is a very cool package. I'd hunt anything up to elk with it, happily, and don't really see a "need" to go to a .350, with the downside that comes with... .358 flat whacks stuff, and with the 225 Partition @ 2500 fps, it's a bona-fide 400-yard gun with a quick spin of a turret...

But, what's "need" got to do with it, right?

I had an XP in 350 RM. Too much recoil so I traded it off. I'm getting a 99 rebored to 358 and am searching for a Savage barrel in 350 RM.
My philosophy: Why decide when you can have both
For speed of a follow up shot I don't think you can beat a Sav 99 or a Rem 7600 in 358.

dad-nabit get tha 350, then load up or down as called for! gotta love it! but then i do have a savage 99 in 3030. guess i need to hush.

I'm not aware that Savage has ever made a .350mag in any persuasion

Sorry - should have clairified. I'm looking for a Savage 10 barrel in 350 Rem Mag. Midway and Shilen have them for the 110, but my receiver is a large shank (10).

It appears that most respondees favor the .350 Rem over the .358 Win. This doesn't surprise me, as with most Americans: "If a little is good, then more is better!"
It seems that many folks have not heard of the concept that "Sometimes less is more..."

I currently own four .358 Win's and have owned three or four others that I have sold... (Most regretably) tho' having hunted with a couple of them, I have never taken game with them.
I also have owned three; .350 Rem Mags. Only one I still own... A Remington M-Seven Custom KS. I have taken game with two of them. (One deer at about 80 yds and one at just over 100) I can't imagine that a .358 wouldn't have worked just as well.

Thus my answer: Build both! Work with both at the range, and hunt with both. I would wager that after having done that, when the time comes to head for the hill, you'll end up carrying the .358 more often than not.

Another thing, if it's important to you... (And It's not to me)... You get one more round in the belly with the .358...

And finally: You only have to please yourself, not matter what others may say.

I'm with GrassHoppa! Both are nice. Seriously, of all the Magnums, I have owned a very few, and the 350 was one, and it got sold when my buddy borrowed the 77 SS and HAMMERED (sorry JB, won't use 'like THOR'), a nice 10pt. the first time he used it, and he claimed it, since, near record class Elk, other deer, and many Hogs to it's list. Recoil not bad for a few to sight in and practice, always some 357 pistol bullets to load, down if you want, cheap too, and blast not piercing to the ears.

The 35s are no frills serious game dumpers. If you don't do a DRT, there will be a trail that looks like the Red Sea to follow!

BTW, I'm not Phil, that would be 458 Win.

Ive just always believed that the 358 winchester on any game from Elk on down out to 300 yards thumps their butt and gets em on their knees PDQ...............
