Well, I bit the bullet and ordered two pair of the Zeiss ClassiCs in 10 X 40 from Cabela's this morning. One for me, and one for my wife. She doesnt shoot, but loves going with us and helping us look for and glass deer. So I decided the safe bet was get both of us a pair, hey we are getting older eyes anyway. Besides, keeps the heat off me, and I cant wait to use them in Idaho this year mule deer hunting. I hope I did good, any classic users out there?

Bought mine nearly a quarter-century ago... biggest mistake I ever made. I have not gotten to look at the newest offerings and the latest optical gadgets because I have no need for them. I have not gotten to buy all those extra binoculars so many seem to accumulate... Oh yeah and I had to replace a failed eyecup last year...

Get the Butler Creek or equivalent strap system and you will be all set...

I was one who bought cheap, and creaped up to the regular Pentax 10 by 50 thas was fair, and I am getting older eyes, and decided it was time I got what I really wanted. I am sure I will be pleased with them. The pair I looked thru of a guide I know sold me. I just told the wife, and as I figured, as long as she was in ( I got her a pair of them also) she is fine with the purchase. Funny how wives can be! Take Care.

You'll love the Zeiss.....IMHO, the best deal currently available for a top-end bino.

Sometimes I wish my wife liked to hunt and shoot, but other times I'm glad she doesn't....

AD,

I think you and your wife will be tickled using these binoculars. I think Art and GW summed it up pretty well.

When Cabela's first bought the Zeiss inventory of Classics, they had the 10-40's and 8-30's available. Living in Michigan, and hunting here, I decided to buy the 8-30's. The price was the same for both binoculars. They also had a $50 rebate (Cerdit towards a future Cabela's purchase) when buying the 8-30's. So, I bought them and am totally satisfied with them. They are better than the Steiner 7x50's (Read VERY HEAVY) I used before. I couldn't ask for a better binocular than the Zeiss 8-30's for Deer hunting here. They are light weight and easy to carry, with parfect glass as far as I'm concerned. I know I won't be buying any more binoculars for a loooong time.

Hope you like yours as much as I like mine.

Don

Cabela's Zeiss are absolutely the best value out there. You won't be sorry with your purchase.

I recently went antelope hunting with several friends. While scouting at near dark, everyone was asking, 'can we take a look through them Zeiss?'

[can we take a look through them Zeiss?] Worst part about owning Zeiss is having to say "NO" all the time!!!

The most important major investment a hunter can make is "GOOD" glass! IMHO, you've made a wise choice. ENJOY!

Bought my 10x40 Classics several years ago and they have been terrific. You won't be sorry and you won't have any headaches from eye strain either.

I have wondered about this. Is Zeiss still making ths 10x40's for cabelas or did Cabelas buy out Zeiss' remaining stock and once they're gone, they're gone?

Thanks, Rob

When Zeiss changed to the New Victory model, Cabela's bought the entire inventory of the Classics from Zeiss, both 8-30's and 10-40's. I don't see Zeiss making the Classics any more. I see that Cabela's is not advertising the 8-30's any more, so I assume they are sold out. My take is that when they sell the remaining 10-40's, there won't be any more.

They are a GREAT buy, either one.

Art: Is it possible you have actually owned Z-classics longer than moi ?

I too have replaced one eye-cup and on my last outing had the 2nd replacement strap finally break. Maybe we have enough Zeiss 10x40 classic owners here to generate a production/date table:

Mine are (black) Dialyt 10x40B's from late '79 or early 1980 ser # 1627909
are yours older/earlier (lower serial #) ?

Will take a look, but mine were bought about '80-'81... suspect you win with the smallest digit!

Got a set for Christmas 2 yrs ago , have I mentioned I love my wife lately!!

Thay are awesome. I even take them bowhunting in the GA jungles...You can look through gaps and in shadows so well I would feel really handicapped without them.

They arrive tomorrow, and I am trying to contain myself as I have wanted a pair of these binoculars for a long time. Last dec in looking thru a guides classics while pig hunting with a customer, I decided I needed to figure a way to get these before out of state hunting this year. Even my wife is excited about it, and she cant wait to go out deer hunting with me this weekend.

While I cannot comment on the 10x40's, I emailed Zeiss regarding the 7x42's several months ago and they assured me that the 7x42 ClassiCs are going to be produced for sometime to come.

Boys, they arrived today!!!! Wow! is all I can say, they feel great, are light, I just set mine up with the bino buddy system, and in looking thru them, they are crisp, clear, great focus, and great colors. I can't believe I waited this long.
All I can say is if you were like me, and never wanted to really spend alot for binoculars, my point is simple, best money I have ever spent. My wife put her's on her desk immediatly when I pulled them out of the packed box.

Aggiedog, I think you'll really enjoy the Zeiss. There might be newer and fancier stuff available, but IMHO, there's none better, especially for the same money.

I'm gonna score me another pair of Zeiss 10x40 ClassiC's just as soon as I can figure out how to fund the purchase. I shoulda never sold the last pair I had.......dangit!

The Nikon Venturer's I'm currently using are great binoculars, in fact, the glass is the best I've ever looked through, but the overall package just isn't as pleasing as the ClassiC's. I'm still of the opinion that they offer the ideal package as far as weight, quality and clarity for the price.

Congrats!

I've used the classics for years. I just bought a pair from Cabellas just to keep them on my shelf in the box. I've got a pair of Swarovski ELs which I plan on trading in on some scopes, they're just not quite up to par with the Zeiss classics.
