While skinning out my mule deer the other day, I found one of the 2 Interbond bullets I hit the deer with (the other was pass-through). I previously fessed up and told you guys that the buck was running straight away from me and I made the Texas Heart Shot@ about 120 yards, and it was very lucky. It was, as it entered the buck about 1" to the right of his "poop shoot", and was lodged under the skin at his lower neck......amazing penetration. I didn't measure it, but it had to travel 40" or so. I'd call this fantastic performance....The recovered bullet weighed 123.6 gr, or a retention of 88.92%.

I've been meaning to try those Interbonds JG..

Hard to switch from the Interlock as I had the exact same shot on my deer but the Interlock passed through and exited the neck, or a portion of it did.

Can't beat that performance by much though...

Can I expect similar results from my 154 SST's out of my 7mag?
That bullet did it's job Johnny! Congrats and thanks for sharing the pic!

JG: Can't beat that .....good frontal area and pretty much end to end penetration...right?
wink
That from the 7RM?

Where did you hit him for the pass through?

NO NO NO>>> NOT the THS..... hahaha... seems like another one is down.

Nice performance. I get so hung up on using TSX that I often ignore the great distance cup and core bullets have come over the years. Still try to avoid them if possible, but have used them now in a 7mm for the second year as I'm still not happy with the other bullets right now. IE no time to test much really and the cup and core have worked. Very eratically, but never a failure to kill.

This does not surprise me. I killed a pretty decent mule deer just last week using a 165gr Interbond out of my 30.06. He was quartering towards me and I hit him in the front part of his chest. The bullet traversed all the way through him and exited just in front of the far side hip. Killed him deader than dead. That was also 40" or more of penetration. I started using Interbonds when they first came out and since doing so I quit looking at other bullets, as I found the perfect bullet for my style of hunting. I've killed 30+ big game animals with them and I'm impressed everytime. They just plain work! Oh and in regards to the guy asking about the SST's. The answer is no, they are not the same animal as the Interbonds. I tried SST's for a while and in my opinion they are just Hornady's version of a Nosler Ballistic Tip with very similar performance.

I double lunged the buck on the pass through shot......at a whopping 20 yards.

Hornady should publish your photo, grin.....

To get an equalivent wound channel with a TSX a guy would need to use something like a .416 ?

NO the SST is a completely different animal. The SST is a cup/core with a plastic tip and tends to expand very rapidly. It is more like the early Nosler BT. The IB is a bonded bullet and will stay together and penetrate well. I gave up on SSTs when I did not get good penetration (on whitetails) with a 150gr from a 308 and a 139gr from a 7mm-08. I switched to the IB and have been very happy.

I use Hornady bullets a lot but I avoid the SST like it was invented by Lee24.

I like the IB's.........have used them in both 277" & 284" & they've worked well of several smallish deer.

Some guys complain about them not shooting well, but I've not had a problem in 270 Win, 280 Rem & 7-08.

MontanaMan,

What powders did you use with the IB in the .280 and 7-08? I have the 154 IB for my 7mmRM and tried RL-22 & RL-19 with no luck. I have a batch loaded with Ramshot Magnum that are waiting to be tested.

Just curious what powders you're using to push them down the tube?

In the 280, RL-22, Norma MRP & Accurate's MagPro

In the 7-08, H4350 & RL-15.

All have worked well; bullets .010"-.020" off the lands in the 280 & as long as the magazine allows in the 7-08.

I have a recovered 139 grain Interbond that I launched out of a .280 a few years back. It looks almost exactly like the pic you posted. I have heard spotty reports of accuracy, but it seems to be centered on specific weights and diameters, such as 154 grain 7mm's and 130 grain .277s. The 139 grain 7mm shot well enough for me and I wouldn't hesitate to hunt whitetails with them again.
