+1 on what Dennis said. I'd add the 3x to the list. I have the M8 4x33 and 3x. Thought I might be a little underscoped at the range with the 3x but was able to shoot a .66" group with .308 handloads out of my Model 88. Haven't had a chance to look through the FXII's but multi-coating would have to be better!

If a really trim scope is the point then the 4x Conquest misses it. It's 1.75 ounces heavier than a VX-II 3-9x40 and about an ounce heavier than a VX-3 3.5-10x40 and about as long as either.

Yes, but it seems to be no big deal;it's great scope that mounts well due to adequate tube length(ocular is a bit big) but still mounts in low rings on Classics and SC M70's.Optics are great and it adjusts accurately.Optically it beats the 4X Leupold...It might be the best 4X out there today for the money.I would rather have it than a 3-9 variable.

I'm building a new 7 mag and have a 4X Conquest set aside for the rifle.

I didn't comment on its optical qualities. The point is it isn't light, if low weight is of importance.

Couldn't mount the 4x Conquest on a 300 Savage the way I wanted cuzz that damn big eyepiece bottomed out. Rifle has a 2-7x Leupold on it.

I was able to mount a 2-5-8x32 on a Rem 700 06 in low leupold DD mounts but it is darn close. The 4x is virtually identical to the 2.5-8. Like Bob says a lighter and smaller 4x no doubt is out there.

Standard 2x7 leupie is pretty light. 6x36 or 6x42 leupie would be excellent. I had a compact 3x9 on a lw .270 for years and it worked well, but wasw a bit dark in low light.

Right now have a 6x42 FX 3 on a NULA .308 and its perfect.

Leupold Rimfire FX1 4x at 7.5oz. Can get the parallax changed from 60yds to 150yds and choice of reticles through their custom shop. Or do it the easy way and just buy a couple ounces heavier FXII. Just throwing out an idea. Tom

I just swapped a VX3 for a conquest. If you're looking for lightest and/or smallest then this idea is out. But I'm gonna say the conquest still beats an "improved" VX3 anyday of the week optics wise.

I personally would stick with a quality 3-9x40. For the small difference in weight, the versatility is worth it. In MT your shot could be anywhere from 30yds to 350yds.

good luck

I'm liking the leupold 6X LR alot lately. I realy like the dots, makes 400yd. hits a good bit easier when used with a good range finder. Just an idea.

Absolutely Bob. The VX3 is a great scope and I do think the improvements are worthwhile other than the gold plated ring. I made the statement not to downgrade the new VX3 but to say the Conquest still has IMO superior glass in a 10 year old design. But then again the glass ain't everything.
